There's a difference between being kind and suppressing your thoughts/feelings/needs: I was raised to be kind to others at the expense of my thoughts/feelings/needs, which has been extremely unhealthy for me. I know many people who share this.
My opinion is that we should teach kindness and respect for others along with being assertive and expressive in healthy ways. Being kind when you're happy with someone is easy. Being kind when you're disagreeing with someone or standing up for yourself is difficult.

I have lost respect for a person which I thought was following her mantra, be kind to one another. It goes to show you that karma does happen and the truth will always come out behind the shadows no matter how many times you turn off the light.

I always taught my kids kindness at home. They still show it today, and are teaching their own kids about kindness. It's such a simple thing. like treating ppl the way you'd like to be treated.
