MORTAL KOMBAT 1 Sub Zero All Intros MK1 Kenneth3RE: If you pay attention a little closely with his interactions with Tomas, you can get a theorized reason why Bi-Han chose to turn the Lin Kuei against Earthrealm. Particularly one mentioning his mother.
I think his mom-s death is a big reason why he turned against Earth-realm. She probably died in service of trying to keep it safe, and he blames his father & Liu Kang for it, hence why he chose to let him die and betray Liu Kang & his brothers. I don-t think his resentment towards Smoke is anything against Smoke personally, but the fact that Smoke represents all the decisions, teachings & ideologies their father made for the Lin Kuei; ideologies he feels got his mother killed & kept the clan from being a more active force in Earthrealm.
I believe Sub-Zero loves his brothers, but he feels betrayed because he feels instead of standing with him and understanding his point of view they blindly follow antiquated ideologies that he feels are empty and unpromising, and only lead the clan to being slaves instead of saviors. No matter what direction the Lin Kuei went he thought his brothers should-ve followed, especially with him being grandmaster, and all his decisions he felt were in the Clan-s best interest. being leaders instead of enforcers. When Kuai Liang rebelled it only increased his resentment which is why he was so quick to try to kill them.
Plus from what I-ve gathered in Mortal Kombat, Cryomancers are known to be ambitious, rebellious, & sometimes power hungry; hence why Sindel from the old timeline probably had them banished.
I would not to say Bi-Han is evil, but he is cold blooded, ruthless, and bit selfish when it comes to his clan and his ambitions for their future.

I have an idea for a character arc for DLC regarding Bi-Han.
During a chapter where you play as Smoke, seeing as how there wasn't one in the vanilla campaign, he encounters Sub-Zero after meeting Takeda Takahashi and joining him on a mission granted to him by Liu Kang. Smoke and Takeda face Bi-Han and eventually defeat him. Before a final blow was struck, he requests that he be heard as to a critical reason he let his father die. Even if in his own words is unjustifiable. He goes on to explain that behind the scenes, Bi-Han being the successor to the Lin Kuei's leadership, suffered tremendous abuse due to the high expectations that was set for him. This concluded in Bi-Han having a somewhat superiority complex to hide the truth of what he endured. With the truth out, Tomas spares Bi-Han and brings him to Kuai Liang who has yet to hear the truth himself. He becomes enraged at the empathy shown to Bi-Han and this triggers a fight against Scorpion. Upon Tomas' victory, he explains Bi-Han's actions. Eventually they build a new bridge as brothers again but they all three know they can never fix what was originally broken. In addition, Bi-Han halts his plan for conquest, and instead finds a way for the Lin Kuei to both lead in their own way while also serving Earthrealm.
Yes, I also am in the belief that Bi-Han's father becomes Noob Saibot. And if not, he should be. It would allow for a very good semblance of storytelling.

I mean he-s Ambitious and overly driven. Initially not evil until he let his father die and betrayed Earthrealm. If most of us had inkling of the Ambition Bi-Han has we-d likely achieved our goals. I dont hear anything about other Lin Kuei members disagreeing with Bi-Han outside Kuai Liang and Smoke. Both Sektor and Cyrax supported it. The Clan chose the direction they wanted to go in. Had Liu Kang listened to the hunger for Greatness that the Lin Kuei desired, this betrayal may not even have happened and the split between the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei wouldve likely be more Amicable. It appears to me that Liu Kang whilst being all powerful and wise, did not actually listen to the desires of anyone else outside himself and what he thought was best for Earthrealm.

What's most pathetic about Bi Han is that his goal is ultimately superficial. He wanted to give his clan independence from Lui Kang. Which is understandable, but he does so by working under Shang Tsung. This doesn't even have to do with the matters of good and evil. He was too much of a coward to just try and break free without having to be under someone. To solidify this is that even after Shang Tsung's defeat he goes running to work under Shao. And he even offers to work under Milleena. He clearly doesn't have enough faith in himself or his clan enough to just break free and fend for himself and lead his clan alone.

Original Timeline: Ice Ninja Assassin, not completely good since he kills as an assassin and had potential to be good, seems to be close with his brother, got killed by being framed for murdering another rival clan, comes back as a more evil version of himself with no good left within him.
Second Timeline: -Same as the previous latter-
Current Timeline: Ice Ninja Assassin, straight up a dick to anyone including his own kin, just straight up evil, he just wants control because he mistakes his own greedy desires and ego for ambition.

Well if you look at it from bi-hans perspective he did make the better choice for his clan. His encounter with ermac and the dragon army showed him that even if they somehow managed to win the Lin kuei would take heavy loss if they fought. If he didn-t fight and joined shao and Shang, he would gain more power, respect and freedom for the Lin kuei. Yes he made the wrong choice for the realms but had the best intentions for his clan.

To be honest, I was expecting Bi-Han to get his redemption in this game (something that I really wanted since he needs one, but maybe the creators showing Bi-Han's flaws and cold side is a way to properly build up his redemption and flesh out his character more, showing us his original personality before doing his redemption. Maybe in the next game, we'll see Bi-Han get it.

My guess is that rather than become Noob Saibot, Bi-Han will eventually become Cyber Sub-Zero instead since we know both Cyrax and Sektor are still apart of the Lin Kuei and if they do make an appearance either as DLC or in whichever MK game comes out next in the future they-ll most likely be cyborgs and Bi-Han would probably follow suit and get cyberized also

I love the foil between Sub Zero and Rain. Both are water themed ninjas but contrasting traits, Sub Zero wants power for himself and betrays his clan while Rain commits atrocities because he fought it would help Edenia and he learned the price of his ambition. Also he regretted his actions when flooding Seido in Havik's ending
reply

bi han really seems on the fence about being evil imo he doesn-t claim anything he hasn-t done and with the lui kang intro he seems to not do alot of things crazy evil but he doesn-t regret anything he-s done cuz he thinks it-s for the greater good he doesn-t even consider himself evil according to the ashrah dialogue
reply

bi han is the sektor of this bew timeline:
-only cares about his ambitions.
-couldn't care less about earthrealm or its people
-killed his father to become the grandmaster
-supports the cyber initiative in order to have more power

reply

I think ultimately Bi-Han does regret his betrayal and not just because it failed, he genuinely didnt know the depths of their depravity and was blinding by anger towards Liu Kang and Greed
Hopefully he gets some redemption

This could be a dumb question but why does Johnny cage sound so different here? I haven't played the game yet so I'm not sure if there's a story reason but this is the only video I've seen where he sounds like this
reply

I hope it will turn out that it's not some balck and white bullsh1t, and that Bi-Han has some really good reasons to act as he does. Maybe too much to expect from NRS writers, but they've proven themselves this time.
reply

i do love that rain appears to have regret of his action, his ending also points that way. maybe the next mk game we will finally get a rain chapter like how they did with our boys baraka and reptile

Everyone saying they liked Kaui liang better but imo I prefer bi han, I think Kuai wasn-t as driven as him and chose peace to thrive but Bi han? He don-t want peace he wants problems always! -
reply

Not sure why people are surprised at Bi-Han's attitude when he's always been like this. The little moments you see of him in MK9 before Scorpion kills him prove it.
reply

I dont mind Bi-han sub zero being evil, i just wish they gave him a but more incentive as to why he went bad. Instead of -the lin kuei is mediocrity. -
reply

as much as i love kaui liangs sub zero it-s great to have bi han back he-s such an asshole and it-s funny seeing him want more smoke than shao khan
reply

why is megan fox getting hate for her voice acting when Sub Zeros is just as bad like he was hired for his voice acting just to sound like an edgy teenager--
reply

Almost every timeline bihan is either a straight up evil or just used as a pawn
Is bihan turning evil like a fixed point in history that never changes

reply

Everybody crying about the comparison between this and the old Bi Han, all the while I'm just happy to see a cold-blooded, ruthless sub-zero
reply

It is really sad that Ed still biased against subzero. The voice actor and the looks are fire man. Just give us the moraly grey Bi-Han.
reply

Hearing Sub-Zero-s voice, I would never have guessed it was the same VA that voices Satoru Gojo (JJK) and Archer/Emiya (Fate series.

Kasuga hasn't been the same since Saeko rejected his marriage proposal. Heck not even a delicious Beef Bowl can make him satisfied.
reply

I love Bi-Han, usually everyone from Earthrealm are the good guys, and then there's him who is just as on smoke as the outworlders
reply

Always been a scorpion fan but since Kuai Laing is scorpion I-m rooting for sub this time. It-ll be cool to see the bad guy win
reply

i wonder if when quan chi comes out if bi-han and him will reference bi-han dying and turning into noob saibot in their intros
reply

He-s mostly a stubborn prick, but he-s surprisingly consistent with his behavior despite everyone calling him a traitor.
reply

In any case, i love sub zero and his wraith form, Noob Saibot. The comebacks he had in intros of mk11 is just. cold.
