Ive been living in a mandarin speaking country for more than a year and the only thing I can confidently communicate is what food and coffee I want. Even then the locals have to ask me to repeat myself because if I dont sing it in the right tone it becomes a different word. I once asked for soup in my coffee because both are pronounced as tang but with a slight tonal shift. Ive studied 4 languages aside from English and mandarin is the most challenging so far.

I loved the film Arrival! It's actually tied with another film as my favorite from 2016.
It is unlikely to ever happen but I would die of happiness to meet Amy Adams. She is such a delightful lady. And her performance in Arrival was mesmerizing! But I've been a fan of her for years now. She doesn't let me down. She is just all around brilliant.
I also loved Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker in Arrival as well. :)

Ive got a solution for you, my American friends: start teaching your teenagers Mandarin in high school so that they wouldn't have to suffer so much when they get a job that involves speaking Mandarin. I'm sure there will be more and more jobs like this in the future.

Embarrasing how Hollywood thought this was good Mandarin Chinese representation. Complete gibberish to native Chinese. It's not even a dialect or regional accent issue, it's just terrible.

It wasn't the worst attempt at Mandarin by a non-Chinese actor that I've heard, but it's hard to understand and makes the fact that she's supposed to be a polyglot much harder to believe.

She is one of my favorite American actresses and it's good to see her at least trying to speak those Mandarin lines as perfect as possible.
