2024 REPUBLICAN NOMINATION CONVENTION
It is the opening evening of the 2024 Republican nomination convention. 1000’s of tfg’s supporters have arrived and have conglomerated together. There is an air of suspense. Something’s up. This is as if something very shall we say unprecedented is about to happen. The hall is festively decorated and well lit. And there’s music blowing in the corner. People are jabbing themselves anticipating a big evening with their savior placing the throne on his head and declaring his nomination
Donald John Trump in a new berry red tie strides up to the podium. A signals silence and the room goes hush. He watches out over the adoring crowd and his pleased but he has something to say.
He starts. All my special people I have something to say:
I’ve arrived at a conclusion about my nomination. After much deliberation and consideration and consultation I am declaring that I will not accept the nomination for the president of the United States at this convention.
Honest hush spreads over the massive assemblage of cretins beneath his feet. The shock of this announcement reads through the crowd and they seem unable to respond.
The golden Creighton cleared his throat. When he started to speak it was silence.
I have to tell you that I’ve made a decision. I have declined the nomination for the president of the United States. I actually do not want to live in the White House.
I have an invitation from a good friend in a place called Sochi. I don’t know but it sounds pretty good to me, a huge house with all the luxuries, all the things that I’m comfortable with. Nobody will be trying to put me in prison or control me in any way. Goodbye Suckers

When Albert mentioned he lost his father when he was 11 it reminded me of that part of Defending Your Life (1991) when after he dies he finds himself in the afterlife and attending a night club comedy show. The lousy stand up comedian that's trying to entertain the sparse crowd asks Brooks' character how he died and he upstages the comedian answering On stage, like you to instant laughs. Minutes later the character Meryl Streep plays asks Brooks to leave the room together and he jokes telling her I can't, he's my father. The fact is that Harry Einstein did die on stage in a theater during a tribute to Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in 1958. He suffered a massive heart attack at age 54 while performing a comic skit and initially everybody thought that when he collapsed it was part of his act. Milton Berle instantly recognized it was not and while assisting him he asked if there was a doctor in the house but the public thought it was another joke. The stagehands dropped the curtain and a physician tried to revive Einstein massaging his heart to no avail.

Love these men. I loved the film - but have one slight criticism. I could watch these two discuss their lives, their thoughts on anything and everything, the history of their friendship for hours. I did not need to hear other comedians tell me how important Albert Brooks was to comedy. We know. We're seeing it. I wanted more of these two.

One of my favorite comedies is 'The In-Laws'. Albert Brooks is hilarious. I actually believe the remake is funnier than the original with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin. and that is saying a lot.

It was a one-off comment under his breath, but Jimmy spontaneously coming up with a comedy duo name for Melvin Kaminsky and Albert Einstein as the Babbling Brooks was inspired.

Hilarious choice of the cigarette bit from Brooks. Considering Reiner's influence on censorship and cigarette use in film.
