Oh man I remember seeing this thing in PC mag back in 1992. I was 10 then. I wanted one SOOO bad. I was obsessed with LCD screens and wanted a Palm sized pc like the LG phenome or the Fujitsu Stylistics. Im glad that you mentioned GRID! I have owned a few of them over the years. They were THE manufacturer of RUGGEIZED tablets all through the late 90's to the mid 00's. I also own a SUPER RARE Ricoh talet PC with a pentium 90, Dual Scan COLOR touch screen with a CD ROM from 1995. My father and I would go out on sunday almost every weekend and go to CompUSA, Computer CITY and Circuit City to geek out over the new computer stuff. He was a DOS guy and taught me EVERYTHING i know about early computers. We hosted a BBS dial up at our house in the late 80's early 90 (before the internet was a thing) which I thought was the coolest thing ever.

This looks too much like a MS+Intel design, that Samsumg (among others) had to be -convinced- to sell under their brand for a short period. This looks like just a run of the mill -Win3. 1 for Pen- hard+soft OEM product. It was just a placeholder, knowing very well that in fact WinCE was going to replace it 3 years later: lighter, faster, no cluncky msdos under the hood, no mandatory hard disk, portable to any processor, thus much better suited to tablets and phones from the ground up.

its funny, i know when he says tablet he means like an ipad type thing, but because of the stylus and general form factor i keep translating it into tablet like a wacom thing, so i'm like 'of course you wouldn't hold it, who holds a drawing tablet? ' and similar dissonances all through the video, though it looks too laggy for like a fun retro drawing machine

RE: the broken 3. 5- floppy: this sounds like the belt broke between the motor and spindle, allowing the tiny DC motor to spin way faster (and more high-pitched) than you're used to hearing, because there's no resistance anymore.
I bet you could find a replacement rubber gasket belt for it!

Turns out it-s just as reliable as the Samsung tablets of the 2010s as well-
All jokes aside, this is a seriously cool piece of retro tech. Samsung was really ahead of the game here, even if it wasn-t a super great user experience.

What's funny is, today, the Note Series of phones has the same borders as the PenMaster. The borders where it has this -barrel- kind of build, where the top and bottom are like flat (and you could stand the device up on them)

My dad has a similar spec laptop at the time. I remember the 100mb HDD was easily filled with a few BMP drawings. The drive would be full after just a few hand written notes/diagrams.
