This game requried a high-end video card but did not support 3dfx. Therefore Battlespire was completely unplayable for me when it came out. It might look like Daggerfall, but the video requirements far exceeded it. After some tooling around I actually got it to start, but it is no exaggeration to say that it ran about one frame every three seconds. Sadly, I returned this game to EB Games from wince it came. I never saw the game again until LGR played it.
Now if you'll excuse me it's time for me to get back to Elden Ring (intentionally dating this message)

It's a shame, because I really like the graphical style of this game and they kept the character creation mechanics from Daggerfall, so it had some potential, but they just didn't seem willing to make an open-world RPG as much as they wanted an Action RPG. At this time, they still had a bunch of people that seemed inexperienced in creating something like that, so we get this incredibly brutal and rough experience just meant to fill in the gap between main series releases.

The game is a spinoff of the main games, yes the game should be better, but it was made in a rush for the fans that are waiting for Morrowind, In Bethesda mind a realese for 98 -_('_')_- and don't ask me why, obviously this game isen't is a open world to explode, because you play in a big dungeon, yeah the game is a shit.

Bought this on GOG. com a few years ago
Got the CD version of Arena and Daggerfall with it
Not a bad deal although from what I can tell it's all Bethesda games you buy come with them
They are still Free from the Bethesda website but it's a nice launcher no command inputs needed you know plus CD version

eeehh about the manual thing, games still come with manuals it just happens to be built into the game now. We call them tutorials. There is no longer a need for a separate medium in which instructions are found for learning how to play the game, the games teach you as you play. Granted, it isn't the same feel. Sure.

1: 37 I particularly like where Bethesda says 'In this age of giant public conglomerates, Bethesda has remained true to its customers, bringing you cutting edge entertainment software. We have learned to place great value on your comments and take them to heart in ways that our larger competitors do not. ' -

The ability to chin wag with a mortal enemy is brilliant.
-Hello, marauder. -
-You're going to die slowly and painfully. -
-Fascinating, I presume you're the one who will bring about my ghastly demise. -
-Yes, savour your last mome. -
-Oh terribly sorry, I just accidently cut off your head. -

Talking to monsters is such a rare mechanic used in games. I'd love to see more games trying that as i offers so many possibilities interesting.
The only other game I can think of which did that is the Shin Megami Tensei series. And Undertale I suppose.

It's funny how our morals have developed in the West, you can have a program that simulates killing folk over and over again, that's completely OK, but for gods sake don't have a picture which shows folks love organs, lol that's so messed up.

The Bugle chip jumping mechanic is actually not a bad idea. Modern games usually have a more dynamic way of jumping, but back then it was just leaping into the abyss and hoping you go just far enough to hit the other platform instead.
