Even the Collector’s Edition Midnight book says something completely different.
The Zandalari are the common ancestors not the Haranir, for murlocs’ sake.
Zandalari Three Great Tribes: Amani, Gurubashi, and Drakkari
The Gurubashi later split into several troll tribes, including the Dark Trolls and Sand Trolls.
The Dark Trolls settled in Ashenvale.
The Dark Trolls who followed Elune and were transformed by the Well of Eternity became the Kaldorei.
The Dark Trolls who instead chose to go underground became the Haranir.
This is exactly what The Art of Midnight states.

I understand the desire to mend the gap between trolls and elves, but to rush it all in just a fraction of a single expansion is kinda insane. Not to mention, so much of how so many of these characters act is like they forget what happened a literal year ago. Everyone saying I will NEVER trust them must not have been paying attention to all the other times they did exactly that with their other enemies. It's natural to have animosity toward someone you've only ever known as an enemy, but that doesn't mean you have to be enemies forever. I just don't understand why they have to keep reusing the same conflict trope over and over again.

God this story has become absolutely abysmal. No one cares about these characters. You don't feel anything when what's-her-face talks about Zul'Jan being a kid. Everyone is trying be friends and the only 3 making sense is Zul'Jan, Lor'themar, and Vareesa. It's one thing to unite against a greater enemy for a time. But all these people with generations of war are suddenly going to hug their enemies and just get over things because characters like Liadrin said to As if she's everyone's mom carrying the all knowing voice of mediation. The conflict. the characters. the whole story is just awful. Can't believe how far it's fallen.

other than the former empires of the Trolls (taken down by Murlocs kekw, being the ancestors of all the native people of Azeroth was, like, the one thing they had going for them as a compelling aspect (or revelation) for their race's lore. the Haranir being placed into this equation ONLY serves to make there be no right party in the dispute between Trolls and Elves such that the future-villain Troll supremacists are wrong based on historicity and facts instead of, you know, doing a genocide. insane writing

so take Arthas arguably one of the best characters warcraft had(BTW #arthasdidnothingwrong Straholme had to be purged and the only reason he turned was because jaina and uther bailed on him) and than make his story end like a little b#$ by having him blown out like a candle in shadowlands. than give us Wish brand arthas. awesome

Should make a cutscene of Amani or lothermar maiev cutscene all her suicide mission of Warcraft 3 plus emotional desire for vengeance would be nice and then steeping up as new leader and reconquer whole Kalimdor for kaldorei would be good there will be wars still ahead after we finished cosmos war

The Haranir turning out to be the long-rumored, savage Dark Trolls is one of the biggest lore reveal let-downs ever in WoW history.
The fact that the Alliance has a playable Troll race is beyond disgusting and a complete betrayal as far as I'm concerned.

I feel like both the elves and trolls already knew this There was a part during the suramar storyline where elves from both alliance and horde kept taunting each other by saying the others were descended from trolls or something.

I think a lot of people are looking at this unification wrong. I think they're intending to make more storyline after this. After kithix now the trolls got a storyline to look forward to as opposed to a brand new race.
