I appreciate that even though the number of truly bad games that were developed using the Build engine outweighs the number of good ones it's still broadly remembered as being associated with great games because the four (previously three, the so-called -Holy Trinity- of mid-90s shooters) games developed on Build were and are so exceptionally good. I finally managed to save enough to build myself a PC this year and scooped up Blood: Fresh Supply and Ion Fury, and I already owned Duke3D Megaton edition and Shadow Warrior Redux since I was able to run those on the old cheap laptop I had when I was in school in the early 2010s. All four of them are an absolute blast, even though they're running on a severely outdated engine. Just goes to show that games don't need AAA graphics or hundreds of unlockable cosmetics and emotes and DLCs to be great. More than anything, the key ingredient of great games is passionate developers.

Its just awesome how this game went into existence.
There was Duke Nukem 3D --> There was lots of effort to make it playable on Linux --> 3D Realms gave up the engine and released it as free software --> the free software community took over and further developed the engine for years with almost exclusively Linux users playing the game due to the engine being free --> the original developer uses the for years developed engine and crates a whole new game.
And the best thing --> due to the development nature of the engine --> it runs on Linux just out of the box and so got an official Linux release =)
Such a long way and we're finally there.

I checked this one out on the Switch shop when looking for new FPS games to play. And it really intrigued me. A Sci-Fi game that actually uses the Build Engine? And that's not all; when I heard this was about Shelly Harrison, or Bombshell, - the same one who appeared in that mediocre shooter game in 2016 - it got me interested. As bad as Bombshell was, I can't deny that the character was an interesting replacement for Duke Nukem after 3D Realms lost the rights to the king himself. And good thing this game is much better; PLEASE let this be the gameplay used for any potential Bombshell sequel.

40 years old here. and I don't get the appeal of -retro gaming- at all. Duke Nukem was amazing 24 years ago. Since then, other shooters have surpassed it in every way possible. I don't get the appeal of going back in time. I LOVED Genesis in 1992, today I can't play a ROM of it for more than 10 minutes without being bored. While a lot of games have been dumbed down, no question, and I do miss game play aspects of a lot of games (see Fallout 2 vs Fallout 4 as an example) there is no question I greatly prefer the graphics, sound, and physics of game made today over a 20+ year old game.

Ion Fury also brought back my gaming childhood of retro FPS games! I downloaded this game on my Nintendo Switch last Tuesday and beat it four days later that week's Friday night! Another game I played on my Switch and beat a couple of days before downloading Ion Fury is called Project Warlock which is like Wolfenstein 3D, the old Doom games, and Hexen combined into one amazing modern retro style gem! You should play Project Warlock and then do a review of it!

Yeah that build engine was simple and even fun to use, Blood and Shadow Warriors including this one, achieved amazing things due to the Build's limitations, one was you couldn't have two Sectors (or Rooms) stacked on top of each other. I spent more time extracting out the maps of Blood, Shadow Warriors, and even Redneck Rampage with the amount of limited DOS Tools at the time, trying to figure out myself how they pulled out those tricks.

I just purchased this game yesterday and I agree with all the feelings that Clint had when playing it. This game made me feel absolutely great and positive just like playing Duke 3D or Doom back in the day and I haven't had that feeling in so so long. You have other feelings that are also good with other new games (like Fallout 3 and New Vegas) but this. this was special. I'm loving it so much.

i was wondering why there were little things that were slightly amateur like it loading up the eduke32 start window instead of just loading the game until i found out it wasnt the actual original 3d realms team that developed this game which was disappointing in some ways but way more impressive in others because it legitimately could pass as an official triple a game

I'm so tired with modern photorealistic graphics and Ion Fury is something I was looking for. It's unbelivable what over 20 years old game engine can do. The set of weapons in this game is amazing. The submachine gun with explosive bullets reminds me of alien gun from Dark Angel/I Come in Peace movie with Dolph Lundgren.
