Iron Assault for DOS: Obscure Stop-Motion Mechs of 1995

An LGR retrospective on Iron Assault by the Italian developer, Graffiti! Compared to MS-DOS competitors in '95 like MechWarrior 2 and Earthsiege, it's not super impressive. But parts are worth a look, namely its full motion video cutscenes with miniatures and stop motion animation! The gameplay itself may wear out its welcome before long, but the kitbashed gunpla are too adorable to miss

As a lover and collector of mech games I-m ashamed to say I-ve never heard of or played this game but I-m glad that you have made me aware of it and now I will go out and find it. Funny thing I went to college for engineering so I can make my own mech but that costs a lot of money so I-m content right now building models. And I love stop motion video no matter how cheesy it is! Keep it up LGR I love you-re videos and they bring me joy!

-. with rarely any brain power required. -
sometimes thats all we need. After a day's work or some household stuff, you'd just want to play a game to relax. A lot of modern games require too much thinking and mostly consists of a 'chore' list that you feel like you're working when you're gaming. Reason why I have so many titles that are still unplayed, waiting for that day when I have enough stamina to play them.

I feel like this is the decidedly more forgiving mech experience I needed at the age of 5, instead of spending hours struggling to barely complete the first few levels of the Wolf campaign in MechWarrior 2 (but loving every second of it. Kind of interesting how they both went with the spatially-realised (for my personal lack of a better term) sort of menu for their story modes.

2: 55 it's brilliant that you say that when you did because, at the same time i've just been thinking about how they made this with miniatures.
Obviously they would've, but I was thinking more about -why does this shot clearly show that it's a close up of a miniature? is it the lighting? how could you fix it? - things like that

I've been looking for this game for 18 bloody years, it's been seared into my brain since I played it off a shareware disc when I was a little kid, thank you so much! The most distinctive thing that I could remember from it other than the UI was how the mechs looked and moved, good to see I wasn't misremembering that part!

Man, that brings back memorys. Awesome to see that game again and while we are on the topic of non Battletech mechgames from the early 1990ies, how about a video about Xenobots/Ultrabots from way back in 93 made by Novalogic? That was one game I absolutely loved to play back then.

Earthsiege? I was starting to wonder if I was the only person on earth that'd played that. Please, PLEASE do a video on Earthsiege. Please please please. I and 2 if at all possible. never got to play Starsiege, but the demo was awesome. So much atmosphere in those games.

TBH watching your video, that game looks fun AH to play. MW2: GBL is still the best Evar for me tho. I would take those Hellfire Streak SRM missiles and group fire them, force the enemy mech into overheating + shutdown mode and take them apart at the legs LOL

I'd LOVE to see more videos about obscure games from this era. I'm sure they don't get as many clicks as retrospectives on games that are beloved or notoriously bad, but personally I enjoy hearing about games that don't already have a hundred videos covering them!

Hey Clint, I'd love to see one of these done on Monster Truck Madness 2 from 98! I grew up with that being one of my first games, had a Logitech wheel and everything. It's a cheesy arcade racer, had multiplayer, was a great PC game, I think you'd really like it!
