A lot of people are asking why Lady Gagas Joanne was not on the list. Joanne was not Gaga revisiting roots, CHEEK TO CHEEK was. Joanne was Gaga mastering another songwriting genre (Western/folk) and exploring more of her artistry and life through it. Cheek to Cheek was literally a return to the jazz music she was trained in and competed in throughout her youth.
It shouldve been on the list for how excellent and accomplished it was. It won a Grammy and has somehow still outsold the Younger Now and Rainbow albums despite it being a jazz album of songbook standards. A platinum jazz album by a contemporary pop star is incredibly unusual and a rare gem. A year after Joanne's release, Younger Now, Rainbow, and JT's Man of the Woods all followed the trend set by Lady Gaga.

I do like the song Let It Be. But Miley's return to form is more my generation. After six years since HM ended, I thought I could never trust her as an artist anymore when she started going provocative. And in a way, it felt bittersweet for me knowing that I didn't get to say goodbye to Miley as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana but knowing I can still love her as plain old Miley. I just find this country pop sound to be refreshing and snuggles in with her roots.

I see now that Beatles's artwork inspired Gorillaz and the newly formed 'LSD' (Labirinth, Sia, Diplo.
Yellow Submarine and Genius video are quite similar, and many LP artworks of Gorillaz are like a hint of Beatles's 'Let it Be' album cover.
. But let's not forget the sorce of the inspiration as a whole.

I dont know. But maybe Nicki Minaj. Started with hip/hop - rap on her mixtapes. Then she came with pop and dance songs like Starships, Pound The Alarm, Va Va Voom etc. But i feel now she is getting back to hip/hop - rap. Its been a while since we have heard her release a dance pop song

Let's call a spade a spade. Miley was a culture vulture. She appropriated black culture for her own benefit in a fit of rebellion because Liam Hemsworth broke up with her. Liam took her back and then she went back to her roots. Everybody wants to be black but nobody wants to be black.

Interesting list, I very much like it! I think singers and bands go through this at some point in their career it's a journey we all get to go along with them and most of the time it makes them that much better.

What about Gaga? I feel she went so back into her roots with Joanne. She has changed so much since Artpop. And songs like Million reasons, Perfect Illusion, and John Wayne she totally is a big comeback queen!

For me, an artists going back to their roots is like a film director making hit after hit, falling to a stream of duds and climbing back up again to show they've still got it.

I really think Gaga should have been on this list for her epic change back to her childhood roots, or at least an honorable mention

Miley Cyrus felt like Disney was exploiting her, but she had no problem exploiting the Hip Hop community.
