Hello! Do we forgetting something here? Like. oh I don't know. Big Hero 6! It was the perfect coming of age story! Hiro started out as a charming, free spirited, careless and irresponsible young teenager. But with Todashi's help he learnt to use his ingenuity and his skills not only for the greater good but also to trully help himself. After Todashi's death with the help of his new companions and especially of course from our lovable Baymax, Hiro came over his loss, he learnt that revenge goes into absolutely nowhere and he ultimately became a better person in the end.
Also a big honorable mention should go to Rise of the Guardians. There! I said it! Jack Frost started out as a cheeky and yet adorable teenager who had no goal on his life and his only wish was to be believed. But suddenly without any warning he was chosen by the Moon to be a Guardian and having to face such a dangerous foe, Pitch Black, Jack had to get out of his shadows and to prove his trully worth. Every time he faced Pitch his selfiness, his morallity, his low self-confidence, his physical and mental strength got tested. Also his interraction ith the rest of the Guardians was really usefull because living 300 years in isolation he literally had little to no social skills. And after all his adventures he learnt his past, he became more confident, courageous, he learnt to care about others and he found out how strong he trully is. And in the end he became relatable hero, loved and he got believed by all the children

Lion King? Simba was literally forced to grow up and even the scene with Mufasa from the sky telling Simba about responsibility was really great metaphor for Simba to finally become an adult.
Toy Story 3? Andy finally saying goodbye to his childhood and Woody letting Andy grow up and accept the big change in life (that Andy would not stay a kid forever.
Treasure Planet? The protagonist in the beginning is a rebellious troubled youth and in the end become a Man of honor.
Big Hero 6? Hiro in the beginning has no plans on life and just keep bot fighting until his brother guide him to find his true calling and when his brother died a big part of his life is gone and he wanted to find the culprit because of revenge until he grows up and choose a better way to end it and lived a happy life.
Brave is another coming of age movie with all the arrange marriage, her parents literally decides what her future is and in the end she finally have the freedom to chose her own path.

Just the second HTTYD movie! ( I am a die heart fan so watch out ) Every movie adds something to Hiccups story, you even say yourself 6: 29. I get Hiccup has to grow up more after the death of his father, but every movie has him grow up a little in his own way. I wrote a essay in ELA on how HTTYD is the best coming of age story ( which is why I looked it up ) and each movie got its own paragraph, saying how he grows in every movie and why its important. Movie 1, Hiccup has to find who he is, and what he is meant to do in his life. Movie 2, he has to grow up, and take responsibility. Movie 3 ( spoilers) Hiccup and to let go and move on. Each movie ties into each other, and important in its own way. So I think the number 1 spot should have been The HTTYD trilogy

The only movies here Ive seen are Bambi, Sword in the Stone, Kikis Delivery Service, Land Before Time, Spirited Away, How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2, Prince of Egypt, Inside Out And Moana. Its the latter two I love the most. But its Hiccup I spiritually connect to more as a protagonist. I was 17 when the first movie came out compared to him being 15. It felt like we were both growing up along with the rest of the world around us. Unlike Hiccup however I always had my mom and dad beside me in the flesh every day. His and Toothless adventures on the big screen were almost like therapy to me in the midst of suicide thoughts, loss of family and friends, educational struggle and transition from childhood to young adulthood!

My number 1 honestly would have been A Silent Voice. That film is incredibly mature and is a true Coming of Age story that beautifully and powerfully captures the essence of forgiveness and learning to listen. I highly recommend it to anyone who who enjoys the power and thoughtfulness that comes from a true Coming of Age masterpiece.

How come Inside Out comes above Spirited Away? I just don't get it. Yes, Inside Out speaks out directly of coming of age, but saying out loud everything without any subtlety. Spirited Away is a masterpiece of animation which conveys the same message but so much more too, and with so much more delicacy and poetry. I don't understand.

ugh yet another anime/animation list that makes me wish i lived in a reality/universe where studio ghibli(btw i don't care if its spelled correctly) wasn't in existence. fyi yes i agree SOME of there stuff is good; however i'm sick of the MOUNT EVEREST sized amount of praise that is continually heaped on that studio.

The Little Prince did so bad to the book mocking academic achievements, somehow the business is the bad guy. I enjoy the stop motion part where they really told the Little Prince story more than the girl plot but if you don't care for the book it's a trying to be deep but stereotyping okay movie.

I'm surprised I didn't recognize most of these, probably because most of the ones I didn't recognize were anime movies. Which after seeing how many were represented in this video, I feel like that should have been a list all on it's own, just saying.

I freaking love Moana. The movie is not perfect or even the best of new Disney films, but the main character is (in my opinion) the best Disney main protagonist I have ever seen. Shes groundbreaking, badass, flawed, and so sweet. I love her.

I know most of people are upset cause Lion King didn't made the cut but I honestly love every movie on this list, so I'm glad you guys made it! Even the Mentions are amazing movies that everybody should watch.

Several other movies could have made the list. The Jungle Book, Tarzan, and Peter Pan (though it was mostly about holding on to childhood, Wendy does decide to grow up in the end) all come to mind.

I remember doing a high school video survey for some middle school students in 2007. I had them watch Kiki's Delivery Service to quiz them about how to be self-confident and self-reliant teens.

Httyd 3, in my opinion, will give Inside Out a run for it's money on this list, based on the life lessons it gives throughout the film. I hope the do an updated version of this list.

Though I love the ending for when Marnie was there and the amazing story. They missed out a large potential by only hinting LGBT with the movie and not not making it official.

Kinda surprised Tangled wasn't on this list. At its very center it is about girl venturing out into the world for the first time and finding out who she is.

Hiccup might get a beard in how to train your Dragon 3 like captain america in infinity war.
Plus where's the lion king that should've been #1

Hmm. I think you should make another list, and include Wolf Children in it. I think that counts as a coming-of-age film.

Am I the only one who just didn't like How to Train Your Dragon 2? I just found it plain boring. I liked the first HtTYD though.

Hiccup will always be the movie character I feel I'm most similar to. Or at least him in the 1st movie anyways.

Honestly, this list should be filled with studio ghibli movies since all of their films are coming of age.

Persepolis is French. you said it wrong. Also, it's funny how you put two French movies beside each other.
