I'm sorry but it won't be Downton Abbey without the Dowager Countess of Grantham. Maggie Smith was one of the reasons I started watching the show and her character was so perfect for her. I do have to say that it's sad to think about Tom being alone, honoring his love for Sybil. Sometimes though a love is so strong that the person left will never want anyone else. My grandfather died in the late 60's and my grandmother never dated again or got remarried and died in 2007 still honoring that love. My grandmother had over 20 happy years of marriage and poor Tom only had a few. I hope he, like Mary, finds the one that can find a place in his heart. There's so much I hope for the movie, and I can't wait until it comes out!

Id like a sequal series setting place in the 30s and 40s, we would see George as a soldier like his father and Sybbie would be a nurse like her Mother.
In the movie i would like to see some certain personality traits in Sybbie and George, for Sybbie to be like her mother, kind and forward thinking. With George becoming intelligent and funny and kind like his father.
A good plot in the movie would be, Tom finding love again and possibly become a father again, he could have doubt about becoming a aftager again because he lost Sybil to childbirth.

All the stuff you are talking about is way too much for a movie. Julian Fellowes as already said that the movie takes place several months after the end of the show. The teaser trailer suggested the action in the film was about preparation for an event. With the limo with the English flags featured towards the end it's likely that event is a visit from the Royal Family. The rumours about Matthew Goode having a small part are pretty much rumours. No one not even him as confirmed or denied that.

If the writers really wanted to throw a wrench into Edith's life, they could have Michael Gregson return. I don't think the family ever received official word of his death, so he could be said to have been imprisoned or detained while in Germany, only to finally return to Downton, expecting to take up where he left off with Edith. Imagine how that would complicate her life.

You ignore the actual pace of events. World War One greatly changed Britain. But many of your suppositions, such as a wish for a consort for Barrow, did not remain respectable until after 1968, a truly revolutionary year. As for Marys sleeping around, typical aristocratic behavior of the nobility since forever.

Mary is actually my least favorite character. I find her snobbish and pretenuous. She is also whiney. Edith whined because she felt ignored. Mary whined because she thought she was entitled. Anna was the only person who could subtle tell Mary to tone it down.

Looking back at this video having seen the movie twice, I'm so happy how many of these 'wishes' were fulfilled. I hope the second movie will be as good! (Oh, and I hope that there is a kiss scene/proposal between Miss Baxter and Mr Molesley)

The Dowager Countess is the epitome of savage class. The writing for her is brilliant, but Dame Maggie Smith's performance is always genius. I don't think she'll die. Her savage wit will outlive all the other characters, upstairs and down.

I agree with everything, except for the first point: Yes, it would be lovely for Tom to find love again, but actually, more than that, I wish he'd at least somewhat regain his political fervour. So make that a storyline.

More than likely I can see it starting at the Crash or the Abdication Crisis. I think having flashback would be a bit too much. I want to see Lady Crowley and the Dowager go at it. May be even add Shirley McClaine.

I hope Downton Abbey survives. I would not enjoy seeing these characters lose everything in the depression. I know it was a tough time, but I hope they find a positive path for these beloved characters.

I'd like to know some backstory on Daisy. She left school at 11; does that mean she went to work at Downton at 11/12? Is she an orphan? Has she any other family than Mrs Patmore and Mr Mason?

lol, the servants at Downton get treated pretty damn well in comparison to other servants in noble households at that time, and they seem to get a pretty decent wage, as well as time off

If you liked Downton Abbey you should watch Upstairs, Downstairs the 1971 one. The creator of Downton Abbey was OBVIOUSLY a fan of that show because Downton has the same story lines.

If they add too many new characters, there won't be enough time for the original characters to have much of a story. Films are only a couple of hours long.
