I think REAL Honorable Mentions should go to the first three groundbreaking coming out movies that this video missed, the ones that set the stage for more acceptance and future film and TV representation:
1) Michael Ontkean's character in Making Love (1982, also starring Kate Jackson as his wife and Harry Hamlin as his love interest.
2) Barry Tubb's character in Consenting Adult (TV-1985, also starring Marlo Thomas and Martin Sheen as his parents.
3) Aidan Quinn's character in An Early Frost (TV-1985, also starring Gena Rowlands and Ben Gazzara as his parents.
Those were ultra powerful because of stellar performances and that they were never before seen in mainstream cinema at a time when they had the most impact.

Wow there are so many great coming moments that you have missed, you went all sentimental with this, but in movies like Get Real where the main characters coming out was incredibly political in his school. The coming out scenes in Better than chocolate, especially Judy to Lila, was just beautiful in all the rage.
There are a couple that should never have been on this list, especially In & Out. I also wouldn't have included the Abby and Simon scene, I didn't feel it was that poignant, however the coming out to his parents scene, I will agree, that was spectacular and beautiful

The world would be a much better place if 50% of the men on this planet were like Simon's dad; a good father, a loving husband and a man who isn't afraid to show his emotions.
But instead. society expects every other male to be a meathead, be obsessed with sports (like football or wrestling) and believe that showing emotions are a sign of weakness

What about Carol from the movie Carol? It wasnt a classic coming out scene but her saying that she wanted everything that happened between her and Therese, knowing itd might take the chances of her getting custody for her daughter was incredibly powerful. I love how she stood true to herself. Also its my favorite lgbtq+ movie

When I came out to my parents I remember I was in panic to tell my dad, cause he was a very strict man and I grew up being afraid of him. To my surprise, he was the one that told me the most beautiful words Id ever thought he would. Our relationship changed a lot since then and now we can say I love you to each other.

I wish Love, Simon had kept him coming out to Abby the same as in the book. In the book, Abby asks him to pull over after he comes out, and it makes you think she's going to react poorly, but then she tells him that she asked him to pull over so she could hug him and tell him she loves him.

wow did you miss a lot. DEBS, Defining Gravity, Latter Days, The Wedding Banquet, Shelter, Beautiful Thing, The Day Laborers, Doing Time on Maple Drive, Consenting Adults, now a couple of these are Made For TV Movies, but the scene in each was much better than In & Out.

Kissing Jessica Stein will always be my favorite. I met Tovah Feldshuh (the mom) and told her it's one of the most important things I have ever seen in a movie. She graciously accepted my comments, and said she was proud to be a part of that film.

Ommmmfggggg I gotta be honest. i usually avoid mojo vids because the narration irritates me, but major major props for including C. R. A. Z. Y. even just as an honorable mention. That movie is incredible and got me through some shiiit.

Keanu Reeves was a major movie star taking on a gay role long before it was considered popular, or a good career move. He's one of the most underrated people in Hollywood, especially since he is incredibly down to earth.

I forgot the title but it was a Hilarious Filipino movie
the family was having a dinner and the boy keeps on asking for a dish
I want that blah blah. and I want that. and that one and.
what else? oohh. I'm gay

Love, Simon is so underrated as a movie. It is a pleasure without guilt. Huge thank you to Troye Sivan for the the song, Strawberries and Cigarettes - a favorite song from the movie.
reply

I think I disagree with the idea that scene in Kissing Jessica Stein is a coming out scene. Its more of a mother telling her daughter to be brave and go where her heart leads her.
reply

I feel like coming out doesn't happen only for the LGBTQIA+ community but also to people stuck ina life they don't like.
Only people who are get this.

i wish my parents were more open minded. and accepting. they are soooo in denial about me and my brother. its. sad. old fashioned christian values. ftl

Noel Fisher that plays Mickey on shameless coming out as gay in front of his horrible family for Ian will be the best tv coming out ever.

I know this was only movies but Id like one about series, Kurt coming out to his father or maxxie in skins is my favorite coming out scene

I also think Emily's comming out to her dad from Pretty little Liars should be on the List. I personally think it is a powerful scene.
reply

K so, Imo, the REAL #1 should be Elio coming out to his Dad because the speech that is given there is SO incredibly deep and meaningful!
reply

A movie that is not mentioned and has a very emotional coming out story is Alex strangelove. the struggle with identity, the peers.
reply

Sorry Moonlight had that one tender scene and the rest of this incoherent movie should have been left on the cutting room floor.
reply

Love, Simon is great, but I think that the moment when Victor comes out to Felix in Love, Victor should be in the list.
reply

I believe we shouldve put in Alex's coming out in the movie Alex Strangelove. Just saying yk it was a really good scene.
reply

Love Simon? LOVE SIMON? ARE YOU KIDDING ME. This is the IDEAL COMING OUT. Its not the reality for some
reply

The campfire scene with River and Keanu is as powerful now as it was when the film was first released.
reply

And Hollywood has won it's long ongoing agenda. to normalize the LGBT community and make emotional.
