Top 10 Movie Couples With the Best Banter

These movie couples make great banter. For this list, well be looking at the most notable romantic pairings in film whose witty, flirty, or funny conversations captivated us. Our countdown includes The American President, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Pride & Prejudice, and more! Which movie couple do YOU think has the best banter? I think there should be an additional list because there are a lot more to add. I would add: Catcher and Barbara from Down With Love, Faith and Peter in Only You, Margaret and Andrew in The Proposal, John and Jane in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Cher and Josh in Clueless. There's just so much more really good ones. I love The Cutting Edge too. I had that movie memorized when I was a kid.

I hate to be That Guy, but nothing earlier than 1980? OK, Shakespeare and Jane Austen count, but where are the great couples from the Golden Age of screwball comedy: Carole Lombard and John Barrymore in Twentieth Century, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby (or Holiday or The Philadelphia Story, Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday (Hell, Cary Grant in practically anything opposite anybody) Where are Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan in The Shop Around The Corner? Where are the Preston Sturges movies? Or if you want to get a little closer to the modern era, where are Woody Allen's classics from the 1970's, Annie Hall and Manhattan? The creators of your number 1 couple would certainly admit that When Harry Met Sally is the direct descendant of Woody Allen's movies.

I don't think anyone will read this but here goes - how in the world can MsMojo say with a straight voice, Shakespeare is known for his great lines (The Pope is Catholic) - and place Much To Do. . at #6 and then worse, Jane Austin after Notting Hill? Oh, and btw, these videos of movie Lists? No need to bother because, if it is anything but SciFi, Horror or Jack the Ripper renditions, #1 will always be When Harry Met Sally - every time.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively in Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock Proposal
Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz in What Happens in Vegas
Jason Lee and Julia Stiles in A Guy Thing
Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Zorro. Also Lovebirds is underrated, so happy it was released on home media

I know I'll catch some flack for this one but. where was Han and Leia from all the Star Wars movies? It should have made this list somewhere! I mean how can anyone not love the lines, I'd just as soon kiss a wookie. I can arrange that. You could use a good kiss!

You've Got Mail, THe Cutting Edge and How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days should've been in the Top 5. Tom Hanks and Shelly Long also had superb banter between them in The Money Pit. There's also The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLaine.

Danny and Tess from oceans eleven.
You are a liar and a thief

All the movies on your list pale by comparison to the 1940s screwball comedies like His Girl Friday or Bringing Up Baby. Just listen to the great banter between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell or Katharine Hepburn. Classics!

For me, the best Elizabeth and Darcy is Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Firth in particular played Darcy as exceptionally shy, believing that Charles Bingley is the only person to accept him as an individual.

Seeing as they seem to be focusing more on romantic/rom-com movies, I think they missed out on some vital banter between couples in other genres. Evie and Rick in The Mummy will always be my favourite!

Benedick and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing INVENTED the art of causal banter, in my book. Wesley and Bianca from The Duff could also apply!
