Marys rape didnt need to happen. There was absolutely no reason for it to occur except for it to drive a wedge between her and Francis and to drive her to Conde; both of which involve impacting the MEN in her life more than it impacts her. The scrutiny is right; rape was used as a plot device.
As a survivor myself I have qualms with the scene, but the worst part about it is that Mary heals by getting with a man (Conde) and the rape plot point is dropped once Conde is killed. After Condes death its like it never happened. I think that they did try to depict it in a respectful way, but there was no need for the graphic, shocking, and brutal depiction of it.
I saw the scene before I became a survivor. I was fourteen and I was watching Reign with my friend who also loved the show. I remember us screaming and crying when it happened because it happened so quickly. Ive re-watched the show since but when I watch it now all I see is a show that needed a serious plot line instead of an attack that impacted Mary long-term and has consequences in her OWN life - not just the lives of the men who are fighting over her.

The reason ppl blame Lola and not Francis is because Francis and Mary were not together anymore. She was engaged to his BROTHER. He was free to do whatever (or whoever) tf he wanted. She on the other hand was still one of Marys ladies and best friends. She knew Mary still loved Francis and she slept with him. HE may no longer have had any obligation towards Mary, but SHE did.
And she definitely didnt earn any points blaming
Mary for Colins death after he tried to rpe her.
Or when Mary told Lola Francis was dying and her first thought was hmm now Im free to be with Narcisse

When Mary stabbed Conde, at such close range and knowing he could easily die, it was a major shock for me! It's hard to imagine driving a knife into a man's gut and then immediately and lovingly returning to your husband. (Not much love for Conde there, it would seem) Also, the fact that she never again got back with Bash. Though she picked Francis as soon as she heard the prophecy was wrong, I still thought that she and Bash would reconnect once Francis died. But she never again sought Bash out, romantically. Finally, the Francis/Mary reunion in heaven was an awesome surprise!

Lola's execution is the most shocking, for me, because she was my main favorite character in Reign. By her being played by Anna Popplewell who I've loved for her doing Susan Pevenise in The Chronicles Of Narnia, movie, franchise, as I do here and some of her other movies she has worked in. There like here we see with a bow and arrow. I felt sorry her character's death here just like in Halo Forward Onto Dawn.

Conde 100 percent just took advantage of Mary and selfishly made a move on her while she was hurting and not on good terms with Francis, even though they were still married and as a queen an affair getting out would have been the end of her rule. He knew all of those things and still advanced on her right when he found she was in that vulnerable position.

I'm still mad that Lola and Francis got together. The only reason that Mary wanted Bash to be legitimized was so she didn't have to Mary Francis and be the cause of his death. Lola knew how Mary felt and she did it anyways. Francis knew that Lola was Mary's lady and that it would hurt her and he did it anyways.

I remember the r scene was too much for me. I couldnt believe what I was watching and then it literally bothered me for days afterward. If they really wanted to create a love triangle I wish they would have had Conde come in and be her rescuer instead.

This show was amazing! I stopped watching after the killed Lola. They killed or Mary's mom, dad, uncle, FRANCIS, all her ladies in waiting were either killed or sent away, she attempted to kill Conde like she really went through it

I liked Lola and Stefan (Lord Narcisse) as a couple. They balanced each other well. Lola made him a better person, and Stefan made her a more resilient person. So pissed that she was killed off. My heart broke seeing Stefan's face.
