I have seen them all, even a couple that were not shown here. Kurt Russell was the best. untill this young man today emerged. Austin Butler. Hec man it was almost uncanny watching Austin, every single gesture every move was Elvis to a tee. Even his body type was perfect. Some Elvis's have been a little too short in height. Others a little too short in the length of the legs and some even a little narrow in the shoulders. Honestly there were times I couldn't tell the difference. Was it Elvis or was it Austin? Thats how incredibly good this new kid on the block was. Elvis would have been so very pleased I think, and full marks to Austin Butler, what a total commitment to a role. I believe too, Austin did much of his own singing. Thats amazing. I hope he gets a well-deserved Oscar for what is truly a brilliant performance.

Kurt Russell was the man he didn't have the reference material that we have today to study he just had what was in the public domain at the time and what he knew from being in one of Elvis films. He got the acting look and speaking voice pitch perfect. They also got the story right in the John Carpenter film. The new film is more artistic licence than fact. Its a great movie and Austin did great but if you want an accurate representation of Elvis and his story the John Carpenter film is the one to see. No actor has come as close to Elvis as Kurt. The first and best.

MsMojo, youll forgot one of the best portrayals of Elvis in the movie from 1988 Elvis & Me with Dale Midkiff as Elvis! It wasnt the best but, certainly a very good representation of Elvis lifes ups & downs especially the downs. This was the first Elvis movie Id seen until the Kurt Russel TV Movie finally came on Local TV in the Greater New Orleans area where I live and saw this 1988 Elvis & Me movie as a child and I was hooked on Elvis from that point on. Im no die hard fan but, Im certainly a fan of his versatile voice especially from 1968-77.

i remember the guy from the 90s, i seen him first in hairspray(he played tracys bf) an thought, wow that guy looks like Elvis( an NOBODY imo actually looks like him, but this guy had similar, eyes, nose, everything, then i seen him portray him in Great balls of fire, i never actually seen the movie he did, but hes the ONLY one who even comes close to looking like him imo, i loves the val kilmer one too, an of course Austin, didnt even look like him, but still did the best at portraying him

No joke Austin Butler was so accurate at Elvis a couple times in the film I thought his portrayal was too good, and that they must have slipped deep fake cuts of Elvis over Butler. The guy knocked it completely out of the park. The voice, the facial ticks, the movements and dance moves. As a life long Elvis fan I was absolutely blown away. He genuinely deserves all the praise he's been getting for this film.

The whole reason why Elvis is popular 45 years after his death and it goes in cycles is because of all performers ever, Elvis has and will always appeal to youth color. Also, it's around 14 that you started seeking out music instead of listening to whose is popular at the time. Some artists simply endure after death but it's a short list which tell you everything.

Kurt Russel did not have the special effects of today's film making. So for the tools that they had in 1979 when Russel's version was made, I think he did great, Austin's portrayal for me was at it's best when the older Elvis Black Leather Elvis came on screen. So for me it is a tie, Russel and Butler. Great Job guy's, you did GOOD!

Butler did an ok job IMO but the best I have seen is Kurt Russell. He looked more like Elvis and nailed him to a T. A lot of the younger generation have no idea Kurt Russell had an Elvis movie and so they are only going on what they have seen. Watch the Kurt Russell movie and then make the decision on who was the best Elvis.

Austin Butler Amazing amazing actor I have never seen such a real emotional delivery that I managed to live that time for more than 02: 30 minutes dancing singing acting with faces and mouths and visceral expressions a spectacle of acting Elvis Presley deserves this star that appeared in the cinema.
reply

The difference between Austin and the other actors is Austin actually embodied Elvis, getting as close to actually becoming the King as is humanly possible. The other actors simply impersonated Elvis, mostly utilizing the exaggerated character traits that became popular and associated with him.

Val Kilmer didnt play Elvis or in an Elvis movie. It was Christian Slater.
Michael St. Gerard in Elvis series from the 90s looked much more like Elvis and moved like him in his early days.
Austin did a good job but this was a movie about col Parker more so than Elvis.

Kurt Russell looked nothing like Elvis, Elvis had bigger lips and a sensuous mouth and all the others were poor imitations. Austin Butler def. got it as close as I think anyone will ever get it. The hair, the lips, the moves, the voice pretty well spot on.

And now, unless I'm wrong, Sophia Coppola is directing a film about Priscilla Presley, and Jacob Elordi has been cast as Elvis Presley. I'm kind of curious about how his performance will go. Especially after Austin Butler's PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE.
reply

No disrespect to Austin who is great in his movie, but Kurt is the better actor and actually met Elvis as a kid, so had first hand knowledge of how the man acted, sang and spoke. So it's no surprise Kurt holds a dear spot to all Elvis fans.

Really like the movie Elvis 1979 with Kurt Russel. I have purchased the new movie Elvis 2022 and can't wait to see it, hope it is good as all the hype? Oh and FYI how many actors that played Elvis got to kick him in the shin 2 times, as Kurt did?
reply

I wish they would actually show bits where he was a prick, because at times he really was. Everyone views these celebrities, ESPECIALLY ones from back in the day, as perfect and kind when they were not 100% all the way.
reply

Harvey Keitel played Elvis in a pretty good movie called 'Finding Graceland'. its about Elvis being found after he faked his death. Very cute fun film. Believe it or not Keitel was a good older Elvis. Check it out.

I don't think the Elvis movie did him justice. Too much like Moulin Rouge. The best one to see is Elvis the miniseries (2005) a must watch. You won't be disappointed. More serious than this new one.
reply

To be honest, even though the 79 TV movie wasn't very strong, I feel like Russell did the best because he just matches Elvis' charisma perfectly. I'm biased though because he's my favorite actor
reply

I think Michael St Gerard resembled him amazingly well and did an exceptional job playing him in 1990. Kurt Russell was good too. I'm impressed with all the work Austin Butler put into the part
reply

Honestly after checking all of those before watching the new one Austin Butler blew them all out the water the dancing the acting the singing it was the best one in my opinion I loved it
reply

Looks and maybe sound-wise I suppose Russell slightly takes it over the other guys. but straight energy, charisma and mannerisms Austin Butler definitely took the cake in my opinion.
reply

Hands down, the best performance was Kurt Russell. Nobody could touch his performance. Until Austin Butler. Now he's number one, and nobody could ever top his performance.

Well, now that my thumbs stopped, if it's about what I actually witness, I was wondering who has better lawyers in this family, the men or the woman? Lucifer oO

2: 28 OH - MY -GOD. That's not Val Kilmer, He's CHRISTIAN SLATER, for God's sake!
It's not even a matter of do your research, it's just common knowledge!

I say Austin is way ahead of everyone else, I left that move thinking I had just been to a real live Elvis concert! A sad life for him! I wanted him to win!
reply

Elvis Presley is the King of Music, not just Rock & Roll.
Austin Butler is by far the best in portraying EP.
RIP, Beloved EP

reply

Butler looks nothing like him, he seemed a little fruity. i like Dale midkiff in Elvis and Me, and Kurt Russell, my top 2 at least!
