video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
These movie soundtracks have zero skips. For this list, well be looking at movie soundtracks that made their movies even better or endured even after the movies popularity fizzled. Our countdown includes Beverly Hills Cop, Dirty Dancing, Pulp Fiction, and more! Which of these soundtracks do you like the best?

Have to disagree with the Patti Labelle was in a career slump comment before mentioning New Attitude. Patti may not have had a lot of pop chart hits at the time (and let's blame MTV and pop radio's decision to ignore a lot of BIG R&B hits--Mtume's Juicy Fruit spent 8 weeks at #1 on the R&B chart but couldn't crack the Top 40 on the pop chart) and, to be accurate, New Attitude didn't even crack the Top 10 on the pop chart (peaked at #17. But Patti was at a near all-time chart high at R&B radio. She had FIVE consecutive Top Ten R&B hits in a 2-year period (including a #1 hit with If Only You Knew) while she cracked the Pop Top 40 only once in the same time frame.

It's just too bad that a film that's supposed to be based in an African country (albeit an entirely fictional one) doesn't have more actual African artists on the soundtrack. The overwhelming majority of performers on the soundtrack are American with a sizable number of British performers. Not really all that surprising, of course, since the Black Panther was played by an American actor and his main adversary was also portrayed by an American. (I guess the needs of commercial success outweighed the need for authenticity)

In no world does Footloose get an honorable mention and not an actual placement. That soundtrack is iconic. As is Top Gun. I know that you want to include current soundtracks, but soundtracks aren't what they used to be. A Star Is Born with Gaga shouldve been on here before some of the others.

In my opinion, The Bodyguard should have been much higher on the list. That's the one I immediately think of when someone mentions soundtracks. Another that I feel should be on the list is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That soundtrack was AMAZING.
reply

List Invalid! Footloose is an Honorable Mention? The Bodyguard is #6, no one even listens to the non-Whitney side! Yet Waiting to Exhale (one of the best soundtracks ever) nor Boomerang are even mentioned? LIST INVALID!

The Big Chill, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, Almost Famous, Flashdance, possibly even Pretty Pink and most John Hughes soundtracks, but The Bodyguard, Saturday Night Fever, and Purple Rain are absolutes!
reply

Every Guardians of the Galaxy! James Gunn actually though the scenes with the 70's and 80's songs in mind. And the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 & 2 ARE GREAT! And they deserved at least an honorable mention
reply

Im sorry but WHERES TITANIC? My heart will go on is one of the most iconic songs Ive heard, I still cry every time I listen to the movies the soundtrack Not even an honorable mention is a crime!
reply

One of my fav. Soundtracks that was never made, Teen Witch. Loved all the music and the idiots thought it wouldn't be a big deal.
Love dirty dancing. Definitely play this one a lot.

reply

Top Gun should be in the top 10, not just an honorable mention, because of songs by Kenny Loggins, Miami Sound Machine, Berlin, Teena Marie, and Cheap Trick, among others.
reply

Um, about the anniversary edition of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, all that was done was to incorporate the More Dirty Dancing soundtrack which came out in early 1988.
reply

The Big Chill is definitely missing, but maybe honorable mentions to Notting Hill and City of Angels. Love and purchased the soundtracks to all three of these.
reply

Boomerang Soundtrack is missing. You can listen to the entire soundtrack without skipping, not to mention the record breaking song End Of The Road by Boyz 2 Men.
reply

The Lost Boys had a fantastic soundtrack. The song Cry, Little Sister by Gerard McMann is the highlight, but the entire soundtrack is killer.
reply

Sure hate that ABBA didn't make the list, but I guess that I understand, since Mama Mia is more of a musical than just a movie worth great music.
reply

The soundtrack from The Greatest Showman is one of my favorites. I thought Top Gun and Footloose deserved more than honorable mentions.
reply

What? No love for American Graffiti? I suppose one could argue that a soundtrack requires at least some original songs, bit still.
reply

HEAR ME OUT
The movies were not Oscar worthy, but all of the Fifty Shades soundtracks were better than the movies themselves

reply

No Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1, 2 (and now 3. Never thought I would be disappointed by any of your lists, but here we are.
reply

If ghostbusters isnt here I wont be happy

I was born in 1994 and still listen to music from the 60s 70s and 80s. Some 90s music. I also like the older movies as well.
reply

Purple Rain is my favorite album of all time. Such a musical genius. Prince definitely left his mark in this world.
reply

There was a second Dirty Dancing soundtrack released way before 2007. I rented from the library in the early 90s
reply

How was 50 Shades of Grey not at least an honorable mention. the soundtracks were the best part of those movies!
reply

One I always love is the Rain Man soundtrack. Great pop songs and especially the instrumentals from Hans Zimmer.
reply

I don't think I could take you seriously without Sound of Music. Obviously, you are focused on 80s and on.
