They had no business signing that 2008 agreement when you make a deal in the dark you get bit by a Vampire. The fact they were so carefree greedy desperate competitive to get the money not knowing what the out come was or would be or the streaming business customer. They were too lazy to do the research and rushed and signed in the dark in good faith. Base on what? Left it to the streaming companies to enrich themselves now and pay later. The problem is that later never comes. That is the oldest con in the book. Legally they don't ever have to reveal their 1099 or customer list because they own the business and we don't. What behooves me is that the streaming companies never planned to have a future with the writer or actor or allow them to have a lucrative career or future. That spans on 22 or more episodes with residuals 4 times a year and re-occurring actors that last 6 to 11 or 20 years, a show was known to do that.
Now you have to take them to court to get back pay in residuals. I didn't vote for that 2008 deal if it doesn't pay or serve me I drop it. No wonder SAG was always out there fighting since 2008. They made the dragon big now they have to make the dragon small. They can do AI without SAG and WGA and there is nothing anyone can do about it, they hire who they want. The signals were loud and clear when they wanted actors exclusively on one hand and cut their work time on the other. I did get a post card to vote on the removal of that restriction. They never had a plan to have a future with SAG and WGA, from the start, so what is the big deal now? SAG and WGA have been dealing in the dark for 15 years now you are woke and broke at the expense of enriching someone else. You are losing box office profits, TV, DVD, Cable, Direct to Video, Commercial sponsors. This was our bird of income and a bird in one hand is better than two birds in a bush. An old African proverb. Learn from your mistake and quit Streaming. Good Luck!

Hello. Reality check. Attention is really being drawn because actors are now involved. The primary reason is their faces are known publicly. It's logical to assume they will now use this to gain public support. Demonizing the other side of the dispute is just adding fuel to the blaze. I've seen some actors do this. Whether or not they were acting is beside the point. Calling the other side bad while they are good begs the question: why not go on by yourself then? If not then isn't that making a deal with the devil? Lie down with garbage you end up smelling like it. One side demands and screams for more money etc. The other side is also losing money despite the numbers. They make an offer w/c the other side rejects and goes on strike. It's obvious they're counting on star power to win the day. What if the other side cannot really give what they want? Then you all go away. remember there're still content creators on the internet who are not involved in either side. There are also the independents. People like me still have something to watch.
Let's just tune in occasionally and find out what happens. Everyone should remember that they (both sides) are no longer the only game in town.

No one that is going to put out or contribute to content that people will relate to and watch is going to be replaced.
If the ones at the top are so ignorant and foolish when it comes to AGI, then let them watch how unsuccessful their products become. Even recently the courts have ruled that copyright infringements cannot be applied to AI generated images, as they put it - they are lacking human touch.
And it will always lack human touch.
We do not simply aggregate information and reconfigure it by numbers into a picture - we are inspired by our immediate environment, moved by our emotions and unconscious tendencies in order to produce great art.
A machine by nature cannot reproduce this, it can only emulate.

While I understand their predicament, we must not go the way of intolerance regarding the rise of AI. It is the next chapter in human development and it is coming, whether they like it or not. Their predicament is not dissimilar to the workers of countries which had not industrialized by the time industrial revolution was at full tilt and were unable to produce competitively priced goods, which put many people out of work. As we adjusted to the machines producing our clothing and our food, we must also adjust to some work being taken over by AI. Skynet arguments are just trying to push away a meteor with a feather.

Be ready, once this strike is over, all streaming services will go up in price.
All theater tickets will go up in price, all movies and tv/streaming content thats sold in stores will go way up in price.
Netflix will be 20 dollars for basic service, 30 dollars for HD version.
Say goodbye to your content, its really going to hit hard across the board.
Buy your stuff from stores now, while its still cheap. Movie theater tickets will be way more expensive. That money has to come from somewhere, and it wont come from the studios or the streaming giants, it will come from you, the consumer. Youve been warned.

Tired of Diva actors and writers, want to make a movie? We can provide 4k realistic mesh that completely replaces humans, voice actors, and even write the story for you! Put all those people that don't care about unifying the nation rather only worry about their bank accounts out of work! With today's power you can become Hollywood! Let us make the movie with your direction, and unleash the power of bots to advertise your work. Start to finish, the future is now! Let these Diva's all fade into dust, it is the time of tech!

I wish the rich movie workers were even richer and more privileged than they already are. That's why I'm supporting the strike and all the people privileged enough to work in the movie industry. They deserve to make whatever they want to make and the rich multi millionaire celebrities supporting them should be able to convince everyone to making that happen! Stand united

We, the entertainment consumers need to pressure the top-paid actors/actresses to negotiate with the studio execs and shareholders to redistribute some of their pay which is many cases are greater than that of the exec and said execs and shareholders back to the employees that actually make possible for them to look so good and be accepted! As well as the execs pay.

Why? These pompous and condesending people look down on this country and it's people and do it quite vociferously.
Let AI do thier jobs. Let them go the way of the calligraphers and illustrators.
The crews will all be fine. The 'talent' can go find a theatre to perform live at. Then they will know what work looks like. That should humble them.

They can't defeat the inevitable development of technology and consumers will have no loyalty to them if ai makes entertainment better and less expensive. Just the way the world goes round.
The same thing happened to people in print before they lost their livelihoid to digital. Just the way it works.

Let holywood burn, independent creators now is the time to take a slice of that pie. The modern writter not writting anything is a blessing cause they sucked. They are only complaining about AI cause its now knocking on their door but were silent when AI started infringing on the Digital Art community

This strike isn't helping the common folk mitigate their stress. Its one of many things making their time on Earth harder. Lies, biased news, bad economy, incompetent government, toxic workplaces, loneliness and nothing to look forward to. The powder keg is reaching its limit.

absolutely support them, this model where execs and ceo's make bank while the writers actors and especially crew are on slave wages needs to end. I look forward to decentralized productions where high quality content can be made without the vampires sucking out all the juice

I stan every single one of these talented and irreplaceable creators! AI is such a slap, not to mention the mockery involved in stealing their faces and calling it a movie, and expecting people to watch it afterward? Not gonna happen. We want people, not robots!

Will any completed movies set for release be postponed? I really hope not. Because I'm already hearing rumors about Warner Bros. highly considering delaying Dune: Part Two because of this and I'm worried about other releases I look forward to for the rest of the year.

One of the reasons cord cutting as cheap and amazing it is, it's a bad thing because the actors are not getting paid like they used to with primetime slots on paytv. Think about those actors and actresses when you start cutting the cord.

Let me explain the strike: They want guaranteed full-time pay for part-time labor. Also they want bonus paychecks (known as residuals) if anyone attempts to make money off the work they have already been adequately paid for. Simple.

I think Streaming is great, but it has played a big part in causing these most recent Writer and Actor Strikes. Hopefully this can lead to more Films being released in Cinemas than straight to Streaming.
Hopefully, all goes well.

All of the power of AI to write scripts and digitize or dear people, and no one can use AI to fix economic problems. If people keep being put out of a job by machines, then who will make money to pay for the work that machines do?

This reminds me of that episode(s) in Bojack Horseman, when the assistants go on strike and the Hollywood producers refuse to accept their terms, which were simply to be treated better. I hope the SAG wins in real life.

If the actors are so concerned with residuals- why dont the healthcare workers that brought the actors back to health when they were in the hospital get some of the residuals from that actors lifelong salary?

Hollywood change my life, for better or worse, teaching me a lot of US culture, but as European knowing how US business work, they are going to starve to death the writers rather than caving to their demands.

I would just say change Careers if Hollywood doesn't want entertainment, which they're based off of then eff it, and we'll see how fast those checks will start rolling out or signing a new contract.
