This was a huge moment in Olympic history, but just how much do you know about the Tonya Harding case? Lets get the facts straight. Did you know that it was the biggest story leading up to the 1994 Winter Olympics? That Tonya Harding still maintains her innocence and that there is a feature film coming out starring Margot Robbie about the incident?

Alright so, Tonya might not be innocent, but I still feel bad for her. She was raised horribly, she had no support whatsoever. Now, I never knew her or Nancy but I can say, We all know everybody hides something, Nancy was definitely hiding something! (Im not saying Nancy deserved what happened to her, and Im glad shes successful today btw) Not saying it was some criminal act, but we really dont know shes just definitely was not this sweet angel everybody thought she was. Now not saying if Tonya REALLY did do it or if it was right but She grew up being abused and nobody believed in her. Its VERY annoying, and I know that Tonya said she heard about the assaults few years ago, but maybe she was scared to tell the truth. (Not saying it was right to lie) She had been threatened to be killed. Maybe she didnt plan it she was just framed, and when I say framed I mean FRAMED. (Like very well planned) Nancy is always the victim, yet gets everything she wants? POLICE GET AWAY WITH MURDER ALL THE TIME. PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH WAY WORSE CRIMES, Yet, Tonya gets her whole career and life ruined because of a bruised knee a HITMAN had done, and we STILL dont know if it was really her. Really? Who was in charge of this case? Honestly, I swear they just had a grudge against her because she wasnt rich. Her whole life was thrown away, the only GOOD thing that happened to her (and let me remind you, she worked so hard for this) and you can say shes just a lier, but do you really believe that? Today Tonyas life isnt Bad, but her career of ice skating is over, and I know this was 20 years ago, but i still would like to get my opinion out. Im allowed to, so here it is.
Edit: this is so long Im so sorry

Im on Tonyas side. Creepy people in your life can ruin things for you. No matter how innocent you are they crap up your life and cause everybody to turn against you. Sometimes they even come out looking pure as snow whilst making you look like a degenerate, its all depending on what they wanted from you and how well they used you. She was used, abused and trashed by the media twisted hungry for anything they could do to get headlines. (And used and abused by everybody she ever knew) Dont ever believe what news says till you get hard core thorough accounts of what happened from both sides. Probably the biggest problem we have right now in the US, nobody wants to honestly just listen to hard core truths and focus on the actual facts.

I don't think Tonya had any clue about the assault. I think it was all planned and implemented by her husband's psychotic buddy. That dude had issues. Im not saying that because of the movie either. I've thought that for years. Tonya Harding was one of the greatest figure skaters in history but she got shunned by the governing body, US Figure Skating. They were a bunch of highfalutin snobs who couldn't accept a girl from a blue collar, disfunctional family in their little clique of elitists. Plain and simple. Then of course, after the Kerrigan attack the rumors flew and the gullible public believed evety word like always.

If Tonya only had a disciplined life she would of been one of the best in the world for many years. She had incredible amount of natural talent that you just don't see ever day. Not to belittle what Nancy Kerrigan experience after all, all she suffered was bruising but one thing for sure is that she milked the publicity bigtime. And she played the victim for decades which I find is pathetic and Tonya lost her career which shouldn't of happened. Tyson bit off Holifield's ear and was allowed to compete again. That's because figure skating has always been a upper class sport.

What happened to Nancy was very wrong. Im glad the attack didnt cause enough damage to end her career. We are all in agreement it was wrong and glad she was able to keep skating. But her bitterness over not winning gold is a bit ridiculous. Winning silver is a big deal. Its not like that is easy or something everyone gets. Tonya was punished enough. She never got an Olympic medal and was banned from skating. I feel like Nancy should accept that and move on. But she seems to keep wanting to remind us of it and punish Tonya more. It is hard to keep feeling sorry for her.
reply

You missed the fact that Tonya was (prior to incident) a technically more proficient skater being the first American female to ever land a triple axel in competition and still one of only about 19 women in the world to do so (2021. In fact in the film they had to recreate it using special effects because the professionals hired couldn't do one. It involves a forward take off without using the toe pick, three and a half rotations in about one second and landing on the other foot with a force of over 400 pounds. No one will ever take that away from her.
reply

Ok wait, she suffered bruising? From that clip of her on the ground and what was shown in the movie I thought she actually broke something. Not to say it couldn't have been a lot worse and it certainly isn't right Nancy was attacked but Tonya definately got everything taken away from her and it's not right imo. Nancy definately has a high and mighty attitude. She seems arrogant. Sorry to say but yeah not a fan of Nancy's personality. Anyway just my opinion

here is my two cents. skating was tonya's life. idt she would've jeopardized that by attacking her opponent. if she did know anything about it, i doubt there was much she could do seeing as her husband was abusive and she was probably more focused on skating. i think she self sabotages, yes and we can plainly see why but attacking her opponent. i don't see. as competitive as she was, i believe she would've rather beat her opponent fair and square.
reply

Have a mix feeling about this. Feel really bad for Tonya but also think she was mess up. She definitely got mistreated by everyone around: parents, her peers and judges. But also it doesnt seem like she wasnt the best person to be around. With Nancy, she didnt deserve to be injured. It could cost her career. On the other hand, she gave me the unfriendly feeling >. < especially when she made the statement to assume Tonya wanted to take her on.

Is this real? Did people in the 90s really have no common sense? Tonyas husband hired a hitman to take out Tonyas compition. It's all there and very very clear. I'd see if her husband wasn't involved, but I mean a dude wouldn't just randomly get up one day and say hmmmmm I'ma go take out a random skater just because come on people. The dumb blonde had her dumb husband hire a hitman. How is she not in jail? Geez. It's not calculus people.
reply

The way I see it, Tonya's punishment was way too harsh. Even if she did know beforehand about what was supposed to happen, I would be scared to tell anyone as well, her husband was ABUSIVE. Tonya said there were multiple occasions where she feared for her life because of him. The fact that her ex-husband and bodyguard got 18 months and she had to go on probation, pay a lot of money, AND couldn't compete anymore is absolutely ridiculous.
reply

Logically, for a person who isnt willing to give in to and change her style to match the main stream noble like style, for someone who has such strong belief in her own ability, for someone who has given all her life for figure skating, she wouldve want to beat her opponent by her own ability, why would she use such an act that is both a disgrace for her love of figure skating and personal ability?
reply

I think Nancy was over reacting. alot. Tonya didnt do anything wrong, she never planned the attack and it was said that she was being physically abused by her husband so she was just trapped. Nancy only got a few bruises and she even said that if the hit was lower or higher she would have broken her leg. and she didnt. Yes i feel bad she got hit but she played the victim too much.
reply

Only if Nancy could have trusted Tonya but it is clear that it was an perfect opportunity for Nancy to remove Tonya out of her competition. Due to that incident and unknown conspiracy back then the judges might also have judged on the basis of sympathy for Nancy but the other way for Tonya. That's why Nancy was placed 2nd and Tonya 8th. Who knows? Mystery is unsolved. ..
reply

If she really didn't take part in the planning of the attack head of the time, then I don't think the dress much mattered to Tanya. I think the white dress that Nancy wore to that one practice mattered more to the media. If Tanya really is telling the truth, as I suspect she is, I don't see why she would care what dress Nancy wore to the practice session.

The odd thing about it is Harding never thought for a second that the scandal would not effect the Judging? She had no clue. Sure. She did not report any findings afterwards. Sure She then made the threat to sue them inorder to skate? 10 to 30 million. Let her skate Pay off a judge $500, 000 to give her a low score Or pay 3 of them.
reply

Nancy Kerrigan didn't deserve to be attacked. But she was a prima donna, who was served life (and skating accolades) on a silver spoon. It was easier for Nancy, and harder and much less fair for Tonya. Nancy threw a tantrum when she got the silver medal, even though she didn't deserve the gold. That says a lot.

I do believe the face will change it I think so perhaps. Has it with money I think. Its a blend basically an old friend Adala. I did not sign up with any human and will just simply wait. I believe the Tonya Harding is the same way perhaps and her face can be used exactly. Its about world championships
reply

Can I just say even leading up to the Olympics I never sided with Nancy. I came from working class and was never gonna look or be a prissy princess. So its funny i still look at Nancy with almost disgust for who she represents. Nun against her as a person. It's the society she represented. Oh America

Because of the attack, everyone was watching the ice skating event in the 94 Olympics. Nancy Kerrigan won that thing hands down. Go back and watch it, and you tell me who won. What's her name almost bit it, and lost her balance at the end, and still won. Apparently everyone saw it but the judges.

Never understood this. Nancy Kerrigan was one of the worlds top skaters at the time and Tonya Harding was not even in the top ten. Trust Americans to make a big deal about it like she was a gold medal chance and a threat. Lot of much better European skaters around.

So I, Tonya is on tv right now so I decided to watch a videos on what happened. I have to see I think Nancy is kind of brat. She seems so smug and superior. I don't like that. I kinda feel bad for Tonya. She took the heaviest fall from this.
reply

Aaaggghh! The stunt skater flutzed! A real Lutz must launch from the outside edge of the skating blade and be landed/run out on the outside edge of the landing foot. Details! This figure can't help but notice such a cringeworthy difference.
reply

For those who saying Nancy playing the Victim. So she isn't the victim? She isn't the one being attacked and got injured? So if someone hits you on the legs you are the one who playing the victim. Ok.
reply

I think Tonya did hear a few things and they probably lied to her to get information but I don't think she thought it would go this far and I don't think she knew if was going to be on Nancy.
reply

Innocent until proven guilty. yet you make Tanya sound obviously involved from the beginning to the end. Tanya so much more attractive than Kerrigan (hairlip. I stuck with Tanya and still do.
reply

Not much I was a little kid and I hated her because everyone else did. Thank you for the video. I think it was wrong for Tonya Harding to hire a hit man that was a cruel thing to do.
reply

as far as I know, there is no clear trail of evidence leading to harding. I truly believe Tonya is innocent. Just because her ex decided to try and help her doesn't mean Tonya was involved.
