Stand By Me is my favorite Stephen King movie. Gordies older brother Dennis really loved him, but when Dennis died, it was like he was invisible to his parents and they barely even noticed him when Dennis was alive. What do you think if Gordie said this to them if he got them to listen to him? He says to them Im sorry if Im such a burden to you. Im sorry if I dont feel like your son. Maybe its time I dont live here anymore. You can keep all of Dennis things for all I care. Hes the son you actually wanted. Gordies mom could say Gordie, thats not fair. Gordie can reply back harshly Whats not fair is that I lost the one person in my family that actually cared about me. Remember when Gordie had a dream that during Dennis funeral that his dad said it should have been Gordie that died? What if Gordie said that to his mom and dad?

The Breakfast Club was the middle part of John Hughes wildly different coming of age teen flicks starting with Weird Science in 1984 followed by this in 1985 then culminating with both Pretty in Pink & Ferris Bueller's Day Off both in 1986. These last 2 were only written by Hughes, but he was synonymous with Teen coming of age movies. He even had a role reversal remake of Pretty in Pink with Some Kind of Wonderful in 1987 (also only written by Hughes as he moving over to adult comedy directing that years Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Some suggestions: American Graffiti the template for Happy Days; Now and Then is a perfect the summer of best friends movie; The Summer of '42 is a sweet awkward boy story; but The Last Picture Show is an iconic coming of age film because it depicts the concept dramatically, comically, and socially both as the main characters grow up and as the adults have grown up in the same small town. McMurtry adapted from his finest storytelling. KDM

My favorite coming-of-age movies are Nowhere Boy, The Breakfast Club, The Hate U Give, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Love, Simon, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid trilogy, Boyz N Da Hood, and Superbad. I wish there were more coming-of-age movies with characters of color since they're always underrepresented. Sure, there are coming-of-age stories for people of color on television, but the movie versions are few and far between.

I wasn't sure The Breakfast Club would be considered a coming of age movie, but it is definitely my favorite. Two of my favorites you never even mentioned, Breaking Away and A little Romance. If you were going to include a Truffaut film A Little Romance would have been _much_ better than 400 Blows, especially for American audiences. And both A L R and Breaking Away are much better than several others on this list.

Stand By Me is probably one of my favorite movies ever! plus it
was filmed in my home state of Oregon. we even still drive down
one of the roads in the movie on our way to the coast. another one
is The Goonies but I don't know if it's really a coming of age movie
but it sure is a fun movie to watch.

I loved Easy A. Absolutely the best portrayal of a happy, healthy family I've seen in any movie. Her family dealt with each other with respect, humor and compassion. I knew a few (just a few) people who had families like that, and boy did I envy them!

The perks of being a wallflower is my top movie and it will be till the day I die. Charlie's struggles he went through was the same as mine so the movie hit me in all the wright ways. And I can finally say I'm a survivor thanks to the movie.

what about Ferris Buehler's Day Off? The Outsiders? Rock and Roll High School? River's Edge? The Bad News Bears? Adventures In Babysitting? Napoleon Dynamite? Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? American Graffiti?

Stand By Me is a great movie. Its more than a coming of age movie, its an adventure about finding your own way in life. The boys all have troubles and are tasked with dealing with them as they walk through nature.

Stand By Me is amazing, I remember watching at 8 years old and still holds a place with me.
I dont know if Ferris Bueller Day Off counts as coming of age movie, but its my favorite teenage movie ever.

_Stand by Me_ is one of the best Stephen King stories. It takes it's simple premise, and uses it to explore some very deep themes. You really just have to see it, as words can't possibly do it justice.

The Best Coming Of Age Movie Or Television Series Hasn't Been Created Yet. Although Dead Poets Society, Love Simon, Moonlight, The 400 Blows And Stand By Me Do Come Close. RIP Robin Williams and River Phoenix.

Stand By Me destroys me more and more with every watch. If you've ever been a preteen boy who went on random adventures with friends you haven't spoken to in years, you understand why!
reply

One of my favorite coming-of-age movies is Foxes with Jodie Foster & Cherie Curie. The girls in the movie were just about the same age I was when it came out so I relate to it so much.
reply

Sorry, but I'm going to add these titles that should have been on the list. Crooklyn, Real Women have Curves, Eighth Grade, Just Another Girl on the I. R. T. and Now and Then, etc.

If you are giving recognition of old black and white movies such as The 400 Blows, than surely you could've included The Last Picture Show onto this list as well.
reply
