Helpful hint: It takes a while though. You can get more presents than just one from the 0 Island. Be prepared to spend A LOT of time in the Hot-Tub(Wrinkly fingers and all) You can get 1-ups, Icarus Wings, Amp 5, Promotion, Duplicate Presents and more. First, save often-drop off un-amped presents. Presents that are picked up and dropped are safe from loss or change on saving. Follow and note all the conversations with the hot-tub girls (three/four conversations lead to presents depending on how you steer the conversations. First- concentrate on filling your Health with Amped 1_up presents, after it's full use Amped Promotion presents to Max out your level. If you drop un-amped presents and save/end game, you might return to find that one of your dropped presents have been Amped! PIck them up Immediately. They're then safe from changing back after a save/end game. If you keep track of conversations and presents, you can leave Level 0 with Maxed out stats, Maxed out status, over 20+ lives, tons of Amped Icarus Wings(for finding all those Backer Islands. Also-I tend to use Latisha(Tomatoes are stronger) to run through the harder levels. Sadly-Level 0 isn't in the really tough run throughs. Also, dropping presents and talking to the Lemonade stand guy can yield presents and money(to a certain amount, then he asks for money from you. TAKES A LOT OF TIME, but makes the run-throughs much easier.

Well. it definitely LOOKS like a true-to-form Toejam and Earl game. I've always loved the art style and the character designs. And the music is dope again as always.
The gameplay is about the same too. but that's always where the problem's been for me with these games. I don't really get the point of it at all.
You just walk around aimlessly looking for ship parts while a bunch of random weirdo shit chases you and knocks you around.
It just doesn't look like much fun as it could be. in fact, it looks like even less happens here than in the old games.
You'd think, after all this time, they would have come up with some new style of gameplay that's not so tedious and gives you more you can -do-.
Whatever. I'm sure longtime fans will dig it.
I was just never much of a fan, to be honest.

I never played the first toejam & Earl game. I rented the second and thought it was pretty cool. I don't think I'll play this one. But I can see the appeal. Also these jams are tight. I feel like I get what the creators intended and appreciate it. You gotta understand that this isn't a transaction, a consumption of a product that you're not happy with. It's something some people care about and if you don't like the game that's ok. But it's not out there to please everyone or hit the mainstream or become a franchise. It's just something some people enjoy.

I didn't grow up with the Genesis but with the NES and Playstation. So while I love the tunes here, I don't even remotely see the point of this game beside a nostalgia kick. I don't see any adults today playing this and enjoying it solely on its gameplay. I understand where you guys are coming from, but don't fall into delusion. .And spare the -don't listen to haters-, -haters must love COD-, just like, stop. 3+ years of dev for this, come on.

The 2d sprites in a 3d environment can work very well. Reference Don't Starve and Party Harder. I think the big issue with the art at this state of the TJ&E build is the way the sprites are animated. And that they take up SO MUCH of the screen. They look better when you zoom out to the further setting. This Earl sprite is like, twice as big as a Don't Starve character sprite, and like 10x the size as a party harder sprite.

Sorry, im not a fan of it either and i played TJ and E: Panic at Funkotron in my childhood years. I was hoping for more of an art style from that game. I know its suppose to be more from the first one but This looks more of a flash game. Hopefully, since theyve been working on it for 3 years, theyll improve it a lot more! :) its supposed to be released in March! So we'll see!

I never even played these games, but this brings up so many feelings. Reminds me of all these nutty games I had on the PC as a kid: creative, original, made by small teams, most of them wacky, all of them so purely focused on fun. Back when no one in the room would ask: -But doesn't our playerbase of 14-year-olds prefer shooting things in the face? -

As a fan of the Genesis games I think this concept just didn't age well I don't even know if I could go back and play the originals they should have made this like citizens of earth/earthbound and just made a side spinoff rpg game, hell better yet just put toe jam and Earl in citizens of earth as dlc chars and then call it a day lol
reply

can someone explain what this game is to me? I never played the original and idk if this seems like a fun game to play. I just wanna know what the game is about and what you are supposed to do. it is marketed as a rouge-like in epic games but from the looks of this video it plays nothing like one IMO.
reply

The best part of this game is CO-OP. Playing alone is honestly very boring. I remember spending endless hours with friends or family members just going back and forth in the elevators looking for the pieces and laughing when somebody would fall off the map just to do it all over again the next day.
reply

As much as I love Toe Jam & Earl, I'd have LOVED to have seen this remake depict Earth as actually LOOKING like Earth; a round planet with countries on top of water and NOT as a collection of islands stacked on top of each other floating in space accessible by way of elevators
reply

In terms of gameplay, it looks fine, but that's just because it's TJ&E1 again (though the lack of proper analog movement is dumb there's no reason to restrict movement to 8 directions. I get what the visuals are going for, but it still ends up looking really cheap.

I-ve been playing this game for 29 years since I was 3 and as much as I love Toe Jam and Earl this is a terrible remake. It has none of the charm the original does. The graphics look generic the music sounds bland the animation is ehhhh. Highly disappointed -
reply

What do people not like so much about TJ&E 3? I think it-s pretty clear from looking at this that they would have had much more success with a more modern 3D game like the 3rd game. I had a ton of fun with that game back in the day and it was quite funky
reply

The soundtrack is so funkin good and the gameplay seems great but the graphics and animation look like. don't really know, they seem like they came from an android game, i still wanna play it, specially with that funky soundtrack
reply

So I dig the music and the art direction, but I dont understand the gameplay at all. what's the objective? I know a lot of this game gas to do with nostalgia but even nostalgia cant keep boredom at bay for that long. haha
reply

I get what they are going for with the art style, the whole 90s cartoon vibe, but personally, I think the orignal game looked better. This looks like a flash game you'd play on miniclips.
reply

So disappointed in the fact that they don-t scream or make no noise when you are at the edge about to fall down like the original game ): -
-WOHO WOAH WOOAH, YAAAAAaaaaaaaa. -

reply

what the heck? How did this come out and I never heard about it? Me and my 10 yr old have been playing the genesis version of this off and on so this is a great thing to find.
reply

the movement seems a bit a awkward, but i'm not dissin the game by any means. the attention to detail is insane, the inclusion of panic's highlights. absolute hype.
reply

So I absolutely love the music and look. but as someone who never played the og, can someone explain to me what the hell you actually do gameplay wise? Lol
reply

So, it-s the exact same concept as the original, just with new graphics? I can-t co-sign that.
At least Panic on Funkatron tried something new.

reply

Disappointing. The original had way better sprites and animation, not to mention this 3D floor, that made all sprites look like flying cardboard figures.
reply

They got the other dimension running, and dancing stand-offs, the groovy music, awesome.
But whoever is playing is doing everything badly.

reply

How can I play this game I remember the old one being on Genesis this looks like just as good how can I get this game? Does anybody know
reply

This has been available for 2 years? I just barely heard about the physical version being released on the Limited Run Games website.
reply

That feeling when you've progressed so much got 2 presents left and pop a randomizer present then a Total Bummer present.
reply

Someone needs to make a complete Toe Jam and Earl Walkthrough/Guide because alot of stuff was left unexplained
reply

I love toe jam and earl but I do not like this at all. They could have done sooo much more with this game.
reply

Should just go old school 2d like the original. Especially with the stuff you can do with pixels these days.
