In Chasm, a soldier named Daltyn ventures underground to find out what happened to some missing miners. We played this challenging platform adventure game at PAX West 2016. Here's the demo

I started following Chasm a few years ago thinking they would try to carve their own niche, but this is just looking like a cheap Castlevania clone. Very uninspired level design (there's a room that just has a single chest with a potion in it; really) and the combat looks bland and repetitive. I'm aware that more weapons and moves will be incorporated into the final product, but this should not be the type of demo a developer leads with. I don't mean to sound too critical, the art is actually very pretty and the engine and collision detection look solid. I'm just saying. why would anyone want to play it? If you've played Symphony of the Night or Aria of Sorrow, why play a shameless clone that offers nothing new? The Momodora series is a perfect example of innovating an already existing genre. They combined the slow, heavy hitting combat of Dark Souls along with dodge rolling and steep difficulty, then seamlessly blended it into a platforming Castlevania-sequel action rpg. Perhaps the developers of Chasm should ask themselves /why/ they're making this IP? Why would fans of the genre want to play Chasm for any reason beyond scratching that nostalgic itch?

If even one of the developers could hear me, please listen up. The artwork is pretty cool, that's why I waited for seeing something cool. But man, please be creative, there is absolutely nothing new about gameplay mechanics, and the level design looks very very boring, like a high schooler did it. Please don't waste your art team's abilities and improve the game. I don't know about the story, since nothing is shown but I don't know if I could stand the game with these poor mechanics.

That must've been the most boring, uninspired and uninteresting demo I've seen in my life. Yeah, the art is pretty, but everything else is -horrible-. Now perhaps the game has more to offer, but it sure as hell doesn't seem like it from what's presented here. I definitely won't be waiting for this one, though I hope it's just an abysmally bland demo, not an abysmally bland game.

I backed this. The dungeons are procedurally generated. I really enjoyed the alpha myself. The only thing here is that the enemy density is still really, really low. Lots of punctuated nothing. Having rooms start more populated, then be less populated for a while after being cleared would probably help keep things interesting while not making backtracking a gigantic hassle.

Reminds me of that lewd game where a bunch of monster girls want to rape the hero.

The art style its great, but by the looks of things its bringing nothing new to platformers. It is only 7 mins of footage, but at least show off something that sets it apart from others.

From what's shown this seems like a fantasy reskin of the Symphony of The Night gameplay. it's undoubtedly a fun formula, still I hope it can add something new and unique to the genre.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this one's like. Will it even touch Symphony Of The Night for the top spot for me? Here's hoping. Good luck devs. So far so good, looking sweet.

There is a bunch of stuff off with this. Looks like it has a good artist, but no one to do music, and the designer/producer doesn't seem to have much experience with videogames.
reply

Looks nice. Still some way to go though, enemy population is a little low. It kind of reminds me of Momodora 4, another good castlevania style game.

People complaining about the music? I think it sounds really great. Nothing like the metal like castlevania tunes but it's own more mellow sound.
reply

Is this finally coming out? I downloaded the PC demo about two years ago. I was beginning to think we'd never see it.

Looks awesome! One question: are there going to be status effects, like say if those spiders also poisoned you?

This game looks weak compared to Deaths Gambit and Bloodstained. I do like the background art though

I wonder if speedruns will be nothing but that character doing the moonwalk at 100mph through the game.
