its kinda dissapointing what the game coud have been and what the end result is. Sure, the combat feels great but everything that evolves around it is pretty dull.
They coud have implemented so many ideas from the previous games, but they went the way to rush it out and deliver a mediocre experience.
There coud have been different phases of a planet attack like scouting missions (like in MWO where you was forced to make use of your light mechs, atm they are after renown lvl 5 just dead weight)
or ambushes against a enemy mech force. Defensive missions coud have been played out that you fight it out in the first place on a place away from the base, try to holding off the enemy waves and eventually have to fall back to the objective if you get pushed back. This woud counter the lame experience that every base you defend ending up as a smoking junkyard, leaving little expression of success in the end. Dont get me wrong, the randomized missions are a good way to keep the game intresting, but in the end every mission has very similar ways to beeing played and it becomes repetitive very quickly. What they showed in the gameplay demos before the games release was looking way more out thought. like killing a garrison commander in his HQ, defended by various enemy mechs that really dosent felt out of place. PGI showed that they can create very beautifull missions with stunning constructed cities and intresting landscapes but they are rare in this game.
Its more like wave mode supreme where you just dont feel that you fighting any organized opposition. I woud love to fight enemy house units with remember worthy opposition, but the one liners from the foes are repetitive and boring after 5 hours of gameplay. They coud have done so much with this game, but instead they delivered an obvious rushed out product with very little BATTLETECH inside it. sad

Thanks for making another mech game. Mech 4 since 2002 here. As beautiful as that is I never play force first person games. Pretending you are in a mech is great and to drive with your big throttle is great but for competitive gaming FFP adds too much luck into the game for me. You go around an object (building, wall, hill) and you never know if luck will get you slammed or not. You can try to peek around but it's still so much luck. Then even if luck is on your side some noob that can't aim half as good as you rushes you because he/she cant see either and they chew on your armor at point blank. If you play in 3rd person, as -unrealistic- as it as and as much as some people make fun of it. you still make totally different decisions when you can see the field of play at hand. It then becomes more of chess: do i go here or there instead of -should I peek around there and oops theres a noob rushing me to chew on my armor-. I have played mech since 2002. was on pro gaming team in mechwarrior league. so know a little bit about mech and tactics but I cant imagine my comment meaning a lot. Games are a business and the casuals are the majority and so the games will never be built for die hards that put time into really learning online play. Still, I will watch. Maybe mech5 will be something more than a business model to take the casuals money. .maybe. xD

EEEEESH. Got some work to do. Really hoping they took some lessons from the MW4 trilogy and helped do away with the building block stomp machines and gave them some more fluidity to their motion for release. I'm seeing mech movement I expect from MW2. I know MWO aint the highest quality game so I hope they get a bit more weight into this game. I am already in the works to get the MW4 trilogy running again, I just hope this and the Battletech PC game arent flops that dont resemble Mechwarrior or Battletech. As it is I have yet to see any non MWO mechs in Mechwarrior and Battletech isn't even like the Tabletop to any degree so players interested in the Tabletop won't have a clue how it works. Needless to say, I am nervous about this universe's next few steps.

I just hope this isn't the product they are going to sell us. unpolished shit. cabin sway is too much. HUD looks 1980's. lasers going off didn't look good. the guy in the Shadowhawk obviously not a player from MWO or any of the Mechwarrior series. sorry if i sound narky. but we as a community have been waiting a damn long time for this and i for one don't want another game that comes out and it's not ready.
plus they only showed fighting gameplay. what about the salvage and rebuild side of it? hope to god it's close to MW4 Mercs

I dont know what his mission was. But clearly when he saw the Jaeger, knowing he already had a catapult to deal with, he should have hit what he needed to hit and gtfo. but instead he stayed around way too long. In the end, would never have made it out, as his left leg was toast and he had little armor left.
I think it looks great. I don't expect perfection, I just want a modern Mechwarrior game that is fun! and this looks like it could be that

the hud should honestly look more like mechwarrior online did i thiink they got the look of it really good in that game i think the graphics could be stepped up a bit for this game too although it says its not complete i just hope they dont keep most of those building textures and hud

Could use better AC effects, this one looks slow and cartoonish, have fast exhaust effects on AC when it leaves the barrel and a hot metal impact where it hits. AC travels at supersonic speed and we would love to see, how a fast projectile mess up with air around it; )
reply

Biggest problems I see are destruction effects, projectile velocity, and things carried over from MWO like useless jump jets and PPCs having travel time instead of being hitscan beams. They also forgot that SRMs can lock onto targets, but that's nothing new.
reply

Try aiming. Running and jumping pointlessly around like you are playing call of duty will turn a lot of people off. Very poor sales pitch.
Better make the next one better or your sales may tank. Trying to capture the COD crowd is not the answer.

These jerks can still burn for what they did to their customers with MWO. Piranha will never get another dime from me. It's just more of the same old cash grab from Russ and the gang. Sad to see such a great series so mistreated by a company.
reply

Suggestion for the desctruction effects: Instead of having whole wall of house show same state of destruction, split the walls into smaller segments, and make it so that adjacent sections are mutually affected by destruction.
reply

I guess it's really difficult, but comparing this to TItanfall where I actually get the feeling of sitting in a bigger mech, this looks just like 3 meter tall guy walking around in a cardboard city with tiny tanks and turrets.
reply

man i wish battletech was like this. im keeping an eyes on this one for sure. battletech seems boring nonstop action. this one satisfy my GTX 1080. But you know what that - target destroyed will get very anoying.
reply

Why arent the enemy mechs going full speed, in the old games theyd be moving fast as can be while firing at you, these enemy AI's act like theyre on too much xanax to pilot a car let alone a mech
reply

You are in a Mech with range advantage. I know. let me get 50 feet away from every single enemy mech on the battlefield! That tactic is sure to throw them for a loop! Who is driving this mech! -_-
reply

This series of games (battle tech/Mech warrior) could greatly benefit from destructible and interactive environments. It really baffles me they haven-t implemented anything of the sort as of yet.
reply

was this played by the guy that designed the buildings or something? getting shot at by 2 mechs and a dozen helicopters. ignore them and zoom in on the buildings WOW LOOK AT THAT ARCHITECTURE

Robot women voice:

Those memories.

Ok, a ShadowHawk to rule them all. Is fun that it survive with lots of Pilgrims, Jagermechs, 2 Atlas, a Catapult and all the firepower Liao send to kill it. 10 boring minutes.
reply

The graphcis appear to get worse as the video progresses. The hangar looks great, the outside acceptable, the city half-assed but once the buildings are in ruin its terrible.
reply

So, you are telling me, that this garbage -IS- the long expected -MW 5- from which we've seen a single footage from 2009, where an Atlas and Warhammer fighting?
reply

I really desperately hope the mwo gets rebuild and influenced by mechwarriors 5s gameplay and success (If the game stays like it is shown here)
reply

that target acquired spam has got to go. I am for voice feedback but for startup and emergency events only. Come on devs you should know better.
reply

looking good to me Especially like that the -paper doll- of each mech now really shows the mech in question, and not the same generic template
reply

The mechs don't feel heavy in this one.
Mechwarrior 3 did it right.
I'll be more than happy to get Mechwarrior 2 or 3 remasters.

reply

this actually looks better than the finished product, it looks smoother and graphics look better than the actual mw5: mercenaries.
reply

gundam is cool but i feel like the western world knows how to make a more gritty and bad ass take on mecha. this is just. wonderful
reply

can you not just step on vehicles and pop them like bugs in this version?
why bother shooting at ones you can step on?

reply

Since its before clan mechs that kindof sucks but atleast we finally got a sequel that isn't some online arena moneygrab mwo
reply

yup, thats a work in progress alright. $15 mw2 reskin right? Oh you want $60, well then you might want to make a few changes.
