No one is going to see this because the video is so old, but if you revisit Uno in person someday, maybe introduce the chaos of the Competition Play rules: Draw 2 stacks in order of play; wild draw 4 stacks in order of play (draw 2 stacks on that only if color matches); number cards can be played out of turn if they are the same color (this skips all players between the two people playing the same color/number combo, all 7 force you to change hands with another player (unless your hand-switch is negated by someone else playing the same color 7 before you make the switch, all Zero force everyone to switch hands to the person in the current direction of play (stacking zeros stacks distance hands move)
Edit: it may be important to note that when playing this way, my goal is always to make a single hand last as long as possible, and when it is over hopefully someone has so many points in their hand that the score-game is only a single hand (500+ points in hand on single hand end)

26: 21 So speaking of AIs. had a shareware version of Uno once where you kept any points left in your hand when someone won a hand, and were out at 500 points until only one winner remained. Set it up as me vs 8 AIs because it was summer vacation and I was bored one day. I got eliminated after about 11 hands and expected it to just say -Game Over- but no, it started Hand 12, then Hand 13, and so on and so forth. The programmer hadn't included a check to make sure the human player was still in the game so the computer just kept playing with itself until the tournament was over. Was definitely NOT more fun that way.

This are my home's house rules:
You draw until you can play
You can play two cards if it's an identical pair of cards (same number & colour)
If an opponent is going to play a card and you have the same. Exact card, then you can play it inmediately, only if you manage to react and go in before they place the card
Also, certain number cards have -abilities-
1 - you must play another card
7 - you may exchange your hand with other player
0 - everyone in the table. Must pass their hand to an adyacent opponent, the player that puts the 0 decides in which direction that happens.

With my friends (idk maybe is totally normal everywhere) we play with certain rules.
For example: every time someone puts a 4, we all must stay silent until another person puts a 4. When you put a 1 you have to change your cards with the person at your right. When you put a wild +4 card you can put a +2 ONLY IF IT IS THE SAME COLOUR THE PERSON THAT PUT THE +4 DECIDED. If you make any mistakes you have to grab 2 cards, and many MANY more.
It makes the game really enjoyable and a little bit difficult -

me at the end of this video: do none of them know that DOS is like. a Real Game?
(for anyone who doesn't know: it's a[n unofficial iirc] sequel to UNO that essentially takes regular UNO rules [around 4 sections] and makes it unfolds into like 16 sections [8 on the front and 8 on the back] and also slows the game down massively because nobody knows how to play DOS and you have to constantly refer to the rules or give up and just play UNO)

House rules: Knew someone who just had a bag of various uno decks and we played with a random handful of cards every time. Instead of reshuffling the discard you would just grab another handful from the bag for the deck, 21+: a shot of tequila for every time you have to draw cards. Pretty effective if you have a drink every time you have to draw, super effective if you drink for each card

When you guys get back in person I would recommend Paleo, I just played it for the first time yesterday and it was great, basically you are part of a tribe that tries to make a Legacy. But to do that you need to kill or do certain things to collect pieces of a cave painting. I really enjoyed and I think you guys will too. : )

See the house rules we had growing up were, we could stack draw cards on top of each other. I e. you lay down a draw 4, then someone laid down a draw 2 or 4 if they had it, and so on and so on. To stack on a wild draw 4 it had to be the same color or also a wild draw 4. Had no idea about the challenge thing either.

Its weird to realize that not only do the different Uno House rules get mentioned, but apparently the multiple card house rule MAY have been a black family thing, because mine sure as hell did the multiple card thing, as well as pretty much everyone I've played with (I live in a predominantly black country/Caribbean)
reply

You play some of the most advanced and complicated board games, that I have ever seen/
Yet, you get confused with UNO!
I played it when I was 5, back in '95! It's literally the most straight forward card game, of all time.
I'm not mad. Just, disappointed.
MAYBE, even, shocked and appalled!

A more reasonable crazy rule is called a -jump-in- in which if you have a card of the exact symbol and color as the one that has just been played you can put down your card, and play resumes from your position, if the jump-in card is a +2 or +4 the number of cards resets.

For a while, my siblings and cousins were obsessed with playing spoons and we'd played every time we got together. One time we were at a cottage and we didn't have any spoons, so instead we played with some plastic knives. I had a scar on my hand for years from that game.

Once I was playing Spoons on a trip with my classmates. We were in northern Canada in winter. One of the players grabbed as many spoons as he could, ran over to the balcony, and chucked them all into the snowbank. It was nuts.

I've waited to watch this video because I thought it would be boring to watch people play UNO, but I never should have doubted you, you managed to make it entertaining and even surprising, you guys are extraordinary

Considering this was Brian's last Overboard, they should have just ended the episode after he got banned and now whenever someone asks where Brian is we could've just said he was lost to the Shadow Realm.
reply

We have a game called spicy uno where each card has an additional feature. For example, if someone plays a 7, no one can talk until a 7 is played again. or 0s would cause all hands to rotate
reply

I think the best part of UNO is that many different families/households tend to have different rules/slightly different ways they play.
Cue about -10 minutes of arguing to figure out how to play.

These videos are so good and have been an absolute beacon in a challenging time. I feel like I'm hanging out with some friends. The way their personalities play off eachother is so funny.

My family plays Water Uno wherein every time you draw a card you take a shot glass full of water, for every card you draw, and the loser is the one who needs to pee.

Simone undigging from a 10 card hand to win after a marathon of other people battling at 1 card was incredible to watch and should've been talked about more, big props!
reply

my childhood uno deck had stacking 2s on 2s and 4s on 4s in the rule pamphlet/how to play section, so i think they just change the rules between versions?

-I'm going through a really psychological time in my life- is perhaps the funniest thing Pat has ever said, and there's some stiff competition for that title

Polygon's Overboard is the parasocially-engineered content that is the ONLY thing that is keeping my brain from crumbling the last 10% this year

Please comment if you believe that you should be able to play MULTIPLE cards during a turn in UNO I'm trying to prove something (that I'm right)
reply

We had the same house rule of playing multiples! My wife and friends were very confused. and I didn-t know other people hadn-t heard of it lol
reply

house rule for uno (also for BS): it's perfectly legal to play more cards than you're supposed to, as long as nobody notices
reply

The only house rule we used to play was that you could forward +2 and +4 cards to the next person by playing one yourself.

I'm sorry Brian David Gilbert but I cannot respect a man who clicks on the send message button instead of pressing enter

You guys should play back to the future drive through time when you can get back to doing regular board games
reply

This video starting in the middle of a round has a certain energy that feels extremely fitting for 2020.
