This makes me want to cry. I was fifteen, LOVED music, and all but 2-3 of these songs were ones that instantly bring back so many memories. I will never be one of those people that say music was so much better back when I was young because I know it was better specifically because I was young (and forty years from now, teenagers today will be complaining about how music doesn't compare to back in 2021, LOL. But I do love hearing the songs I grew up with. My two favorites are Ain't Even Done With The Night and How 'Bout Us, but almost every one of these songs brings back so many wonderful memories. Thank you!

I still have a vivid memory of laying in my bed one day during the summer of 1981, high as a kite on Gainesville green, at the age of 14, listening to Casey Kasem's top 40. That's what this reminds me of. Great memories. I even remember they included the song Games People Play, by Alan Parsons Project, which was my favorite track of the countdown. That was the best summer of my life. Stoned to the Bone and loving it! Gainesville green, Pac-Man and Asteroids, and Pop Rocks!

Coming from The UK, It's very Interesting to see charts from other countries. I remember a handful of these tracks doing well in The UK but from my memory (please correct me if I'm wrong) many of them didn't chart In The UK although some of those acts did chart with different songs. I think The US is more R&B/Country/Rock orientated whereas The UK is more Euro-pop or at least it was back in those days.

I followed and wrote down the AT40 from 1983-1992. Every week. I learned to interpret the climbs and drops and what they prognosticated. Note that any song outside the top 10 that gained 5 or more spots in a week was pretty much a guaranteed top 3 hit. Kudos to the uploader too for finding music or even video for all 40! Very nice.

I love that John Cougar hit. his first one So many great ones of course! The Police was my favorite band then. the Cars. Just the Two of Us. never tire of it. never. Hall & Oates were huge, REO. Kim Carne's Bette Davis Eyes. never tire. great time travel for me

I remember all except for maybe five out of the forty songs listed here and a majority of them are classics. The music charts of today will never reflect those numbers. I still like some of today's tunes but the music back then was far better than it is now.

Actually reo was 1980, but the hits were 1981, i saw them at the hampton coliseum in the beginning of 1981 , and they had the number 1 album at the time of the concert. Later on they were voted the worst rock band ever! , how times change.

I was 16 in 1981 and I used to dislike all of this top 40 music. I was into New Wave and Italio Disco, H NRG music and Break dancing. This music now sounds great to me compared to today's boring music

I guess it is somewhat better than I remembered. but it's still pretty hit and miss. especially when you got to listen to the years before and after the Summer of Love. it's hit and mostly missssss.

REO SPEEDWAGON and STYX both had 2 songs on the list. Some really great songs amongst those 40, but the Rovers at #39 is the one that I thought was interesting. I have never heard of it.
