It's a completely patriarchal society. Men and women are not considered equal. Women are not allowed to work outside the home and the husband's word is absolute law. I used to work in a restaurant that was in a place with a large Amish community and the Amish never tipped, considering that it's a woman's job to serve a man with no reward, even if she's not Amish. The only other religion I know that is completely patriarchal is the Jehovah's Witnesses. In their religion the woman is always in subjection to a baptized male, even if he's a 10 year old boy. The Jehovah's Witnesses also shun and are very strict as to rules for dating. Among Jehovah''s Witnesses there is no casual dating. All dating is in preparation for marriage and the dating couple always has a chaperon going along with them, regardless of their age, even if they are in their 50s. The couple is never allowed to be alone. This is thought to be a deterrent to fornication.

The Amish have become a Disney land a lot of the earnings are from us English buying there stuff. Also the women in the Amish have double the work load. There in factories offices restaurants than get to come home and do all traditional womens jobs without any modern conveniences. The land thats owned cannot support the Amish population so the men also work off the farm. There work load has been decreased. Also due to interbreeding there young our born with a much greater rate of birth defects. So were gonna go your 18 y/0 female with an 8th grade education plus no family support. They practice no form of birth control so they breed further harming this already overpopulated world. Plus add no health insurance so the state gets to finance there spiritual beliefs to the tune of millions of dollars yearly. I get an abortion and its near illegal and not covered by most insurance. This is one meddled up planet.

It seems to me that they live a good home based life with everything based on the group.
However, music is a buetiful art, not the head banging but real soul written music that sings of life and its tos and throws, and as a christian l really do not see any reason that it cannot be used as a story teller?
Love songs are about the very thing these people are promoting
Be it about two people or the whole comunity, this would be the only downfall I would have about joining such a group, and I find it very disapointing that even those living Round them cannot see the vertues, just a very quick look at the rest of America should explain why.

I work with the Amish; they are not as nice as you think they all are. They have cellphones, vehicles, and other hidden devices they hide amongst themselves. This woman has no idea what she is talking about, I have seen some plus size Amish men and women. The Amish women take a lot to their graves, they are abused, neglected, and taken for granted. They Amish drink, fight, but keep to themselves WITHOUT INVOLVING THE POLICE. When they go out to drink, they are too drunk to take themselves home, but the horse is trained to take them straight home.

I also forgot mention that in our community we were different shades of blue to get married in typically but we most certainly don't wear our wedding dress to get buried in. I don't even have mine anymore. We wear black dresses and white cape and apron over that. Also our babies and often our little girls sometimes wear white gowns. Maybe in other communities that is what they do but not where I live. This was the first time I'd even heard that. Not saying it's not true though

What's so strange about adult baptism? Most Christians believe that you need to make a conscious informed decision to accept Christ as your savior before choosing to be baptized. Only a few denominations like Catholic and Lutheran baptize babies. That is actually a less common form of baptism than immersion.

I've dealt with them in agri-retail, farmers markets, and when I was a contractor, I actually studied their construction techniques. The ones I have dealt with, while not fully involved in the English world, were nice to be around and talk with.

Everyone should read the book Tears of the Silenced by Misty Griffin. I don't think that all Amish are like those she portrayed in her book but they are very strange and some of them are very cruel and pedophiles.

Infant Baptism is not part of the Baptist UK tradition. Adult baptism by total immersion is part of making a commitment to Christ. It is not weird like you portray in this very biased video

Dolls like this were in fact were used in the 1800 give, or take for only the rich could spend mony on the buttons, and yarn for the face, and hair. No face on the dolls were made of starw.
