Im pretty sure the show would have mentioned such an important sub-plot and i think alot of the reason why Tony was her friend is a plot hole that couldn't be explained due to lack of content and story for them to pull from the book. I think that also explain why the second season was not well received, because they no longer had the book to use as a crutch for some of the new plots they were covering in the series.

The thing that is wrong with this theory is that Bryce raped Hannah a week before she killed herself, she was raped on the 2nd of October and committed suicide on the 9th of October, Hannah wouldn't have shown any signs of pregnancy within a week.
