I hated how Rory developed because it literally hit too close to home -- and I was never a fan of that kind of behavior anyway. She toys with people's feelings, cheats on them, etc, and never really takes blame for it. One time she did, when she and Jess wrecked Dean's car -- the car he spent months _building for her_. But one time out of many does not make it okay. She was constantly moving from one guy to the next for reasons mostly unclear and didn't care about the impact her decisions made on others, only on herself. She did what she wanted without any second thoughts as to what it might cause.
I had a family member like this in RL; she did everything Rory did -- crashed her car, always chased after the bad boy type while leaving the nicer and more respectful ones in the dirt. And while she finally seems to have gotten herself together, the behavior Rory exhibits throughout the entire series just angered me so much because I have seen this personally. Maybe people are okay with it because they don't believe shit like that can happen in RL -- but it does. It really does, and it's not a pleasant experience in the slightest: to literally watch someone you care about self-destruct and knowing the only way they'll learn is to fall completely. The only thing is Rory doesn't learn. She never gets her life together, and even into her adult life, she's still entitled and hasn't learned to take responsibility for her actions. I understand that some people really don't grow up. But that doesn't make it any less painful or angering to watch.
In fact, it was these very things that make it hard to watch most of the series since it starts about mid-Season 2. But the show is funny so I bear it, hard as it is. Maybe some of this can be attributed to being raised more like a sister than a daughter. But you can't continue to blame Lorelai for her behavior when Rory is fully capable of making her own decisions -- and she makes some ridiculously poor ones over the series. If it wasn't for the comedy and sarcasm that constantly filled Gilmore Girls, I probably wouldn't have been able to watch.

Rory is actually extremely realistic when you look at how she was raised. The way all of Stars Hollow adores her, how Lorelai is more interested in her being her friend instead of her parent and how Emily and Richard were prepared to do anything for her. She was everyones golden girl and was under immense pressure to be everyones perfect Rory. And nobody ever told her that she wasnt good enough for her dreams. Lorelai put so much pressure on her to go to Harvard, to become a journalist and not be like her mother. So when Mitchum tells her that she isnt good enough its going to hurt. Because shes been working towards that goal for her whole life. Because nobody has ever told her she isnt good enough. Because she has been raised without criticism. Rory Gilmore is so raw and real in that sense. When gifted children are told that they arent good enough after being told theyre special for their whole life it hurts like hell. Rory shouldve been allowed to be lost for a while, thats what your twenties are for. Richard and Emily and Logan understood that. Lorelai didnt and cutting Rory out of her life was so childish and immature. I definitely think that Rory is deliberately written as a flawed character and thats what the fandom needs to understand.

Why doesn't anyone ever just say that her character chose the wrong profession. Her best skill was not writing, it was organizing. Her articles and papers were the results of her ability to research and organize her notes. She was successful at editing the college paper because she was good at organizing the articles in the correct placement within the paper. The best example is the fundraiser for her Grandmother's organization. Huge success and she was praised heavily for it. Maybe the lesson is that you should take advantage of the skills you have. She could have created her own business planning parties, weddings, and fundraisers and been very successful financially which would have given her the freedom to write for pleasure if that was her true dream.

Rory became everything her mother didn't want her to become. I accept Rory's journey. We all change as we get older and it's okay to lose your way and then find it again. So I liked how the series ended. Rory found her way and found herself again. She wasn't going to settle and get married because she had aspirations. She wanted to be a journalist and after everything she went through like her self doubt when Mitchum called her out she was able to follow Obama during his campaign. It was a great way to end the series. It was the beginning of her success. What I CANNOT accept is how they did her so dirty in the reboot. I will never accept that as gilmore girl Canon. It doesn't exist to me.

Too many people wanted Rory's career to be like Paris' career, but they are two different people, and seeing them both thrive is both unrealistic and boring to watch on TV. People don't always go from being a great student to having a great career: the opposite is far more likely. Since we see Rory fall in the later years of the show, how far she fell in the Netflix revival makes sense. In this case, I think the creators made the right call. We needed to see how things worked out for Paris despite having a harder time when she was younger, and for Rory's path to change despite everything seeming so easy for her.

There were earlier signs of the downfall of Rory. The moment she kissed Tristan was basically the kiss of death. Her calling Jess after she had that talk with Lorelai. Not saying Dean was a good guy, far from it but his suspicions were right and I'm glad he got a happy ending in the revival.
Rory became more toxic as the show progressed and never matured just like her mother which I guess the theme where you lead, I will follow applies. It's sad because she could've followed her grandfather's work ethics and grandmother's and great grandmother mannerisms. Instead she took the toxic traits from both her parents.

That saidshe probably shouldve become either a fiction writer or a biographer, instead of trying to pursue journalism, which she clearly wasnt cut out for. Her writing wasnt the problemit was being able to hunt down a good news story. Heck, she couldve turned Life With Grandpa into a YA series.

Rory is an entitled immature spoiled brat. And lorelai is the same. No amount of rivaval could finish her character development she was terrible person from the start. Cheating on all boyfriends, pretending to be poor when the whole show contradicts that. Ie always eating out, going to private scool, ivy league college, trust fund and not being a good friend.

The truth is we're so used to see happy endings on screen we don't realise how unrealistic they really are. So when someone does an actual realistic character development we end up disappointed and confused. People who do well in school don't always do well in life. Especially when everything comes easy to them like it did to Rory
