Costume Design Is The Hidden Magic In Movies. The Clothes Make The Character! Actors, writers, directors, set designers theyre all important, but without accurate costumes that shine on screen, none of our favorite films would be believable. From Elle Woods to Willy Wonka and Marie Antoinette, the way a character dresses sets them apart, lets us get to know their personality, and develops as the character changes. Fashion designers spend a lot of time putting small details into characters clothing to reflect who they are or where the story will go next. In Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland, they added black beads to Alices dress to highlight that shes not as childish as she seems. In The Grand Budapest Hotel, fairytale colors are chosen to set the world apart from our own. In Little Women, Titanic and Memoirs of a Geisha, modern elements are paired with historical fashion, creating looks that are both relatable and represent a different time period. Fantasy, superhero and scifi films use these techniques too to create entirely new worlds, from Star Wars to Harry Potter. Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman and the Avengers even use CGI to create dynamic costumes that can really get in on the action. From the award winning wardrobe of Gone with the Wind to how designers remake the clothing of real people in films like Frida and Jackie, costume design will always be important when it comes to movie making. Heres how some of our favorite films use costume design to tell a story, from creating a characters personality to building entirely new worlds. NEW UPLOADS

A great example of contemporary-set costume design is 'Ocean's 11' (2001.
I was in a play once, and it was my idea for my bureaucrat cubicle bee character to have a short-sleeved rather than long-sleeved shirt, because my scenes were set in southern California.
I met Catherine Martin, once, at a panel during the TriBeCa Film Festival, here in New York City!

The things: actually does a good job! She talks about good films with brilliant costumes, . talks about Little Women. (2019)
Me: well perhaps they tried.
Also did they just talk about like every video that modern Girls made about Great costumes like they stole her favourites?

Great video! I personally loved the hair, make-up, and costume designs for the White Witch in Narnia (2005, because it showed how her power diminished as the movie progressed.
