I think one of the weirdest and more visually colorful was Peter Dudley, aka Aquabeast the Abominable, who appeared in -_Aquaman_- #34. Trying to replicate Aquaman's appearance and powers, Dudley instead transformed himself into a grotesque ogre-like Aquabeast who wound up being swept into the depths of a deep-sea trench. If the horrific denizens of the deep sea didn't just eat him, it would be interesting to see what he's been up to since then.
Also to see if by chance he's any relation to that other ersatz superhero, Uncle Dudley Batson. .. .

Couple of things:
-Red Pansy-? That was an unfortunate mispronunciation. It's Red Panzer.
I always assumed Demo was pronounced to rhyme with Nemo.
