I defended The Lion King for its stunning visuals and childhood nostalgia. I was really excited to see this movie since it was announced. I just thought what the story would be like in live-action. And I see reasons why it’s not well liked is because of its realism over emotion and charm as well as its shot-for-shots. So I consider this an okay film aside from the more beloved original; and I must say that the original Lion King is better than the remake. Though I’m not saying the remake is a bad movie, like I said, and it’s not good either. The original was great, while the remake was justokay. The Pinocchio remake I was not in favor with. For one I wasn’t a fan of the pacing and the way the movie ended. In the case of Beauty and the Beast, I defended Emma Watson’s singing voice whereas I had mixed feelings about it at the same time: for instance where they auto-tuned her voice to make it sound like she sings perfectly. The thing is Emma’s not a singer, and they should’ve hired an actress who has an amazing singing talent and not always for their appearances (like Hall Bailey with Ariel. It wasn’t about appearances when it came to casting the character, it’s about musical talent. I also didn’t like how they designed the Beast where they made him look too uglyVFX-wise. I wanted to see him look closer to his original counterpart rather than this erect lion-like creature with the horns of an antelope and a humanoid face with small fangs. I still like the designs of the castle objects, but the titular characters I’m beginning to have a problem with right now. So I thought I needed a little break from Disney remakes at the moment.

I agree with your top pick, but you didn't list the biggest reason why its number 1. See Pinocchio is a story about learning from your mistakes and becoming a better person through the punishments of one's actions. Pinocchio wasn't allowed to make a bad decision in this film. He makes it to school instead of turning around and choosing to go the other way. One could argue the cricket is the only reason he made it to school, but the fact he made it to his destination means the point of this scene is lost. The most glaring flaw has to be his lack of destructive desires once he gets to Pleasure Island. He turns into a donkey in the original because he was being an ass, but here, he was determined not to break anything, so where's the lesson It fails as a modern day adaptation because he's meant to be flawed and becomes a better person through his mistakes. But in a film where he isn't allowed to make them in the first place, this film fails to adapt the original story

the live action remakes need to stop already as i'd for some of them put their originals sequels above them(definitely in peter pan and wendy, mulan despite being very bad, lion king and aladdin)
would replace 101 dalmations(tbh the original wasn't that grandiose of that era & it wouldn't work if the animals talked as this one's fine) with the cinderella remake(that handled it's title character horribly) or cruella which tried to make a horrible dog killer a badass to look up to when it could've been someone influenced by her not knowing her dark depths.
the lion king disappointed me hard as i loved the original so much & could've done a lot more with how the jungle book 2016/national geographic documentaries are more closer to a live action lion king.
alice feels less like the disney one and burton having a showcase of his recent flaws adapting the original story.

If Aladdin is on this list, it was DEFINITELY NOT Will Smith's fault. He did a FANTASTIC job of portraying the genie in his own way. Will really felt the pressure of having to live up to Robin William's genie. In multiple interviews, he explained that he would really have to do the genie in his own way, but still honor the memory of Robin Williams because of how Robin turned the genie into such a BELOVED and ICONIC character. Will Smith REALLY KNEW that the audience would judging his performance as the genie and he REALLY KNEW that the audience would be very CRITICAL of EVERY LITTLE DETAIL. If the Aladdin remake is bad, that is NOT Will Smith's fault. He did a WONDERFUL job at bringing his sense of style to the genie's character. He did NOT disappoint.

I actually would replace Mulan place with Alice in Wonderland and remove Aladdin and Lady and the Tramp from the list and replaced with Maleficent and the Little Mermaid.
I also believe that I will remove 101 Dalmatians because Snow White will the list soon.

7- Aladdin(not better than the original but still good)
6- Pete's Dragon(better than the original)
5- Cruella(not better but still good)

The Little Mermaid should be on this list. I just found the movie disappointing. The ocean itself seemed so empty of other mermaids and fish. The animals also suffer the same problem as the animals in the Lion King: expressionless faces. Having Ariel forget that she was suppose to kiss Eric in three days was unnecessary. Replacing staling the wedding with crashing an engagement party was a downgrade. Having all of Ursula’s poor unfortunate souls disappear(especially King Triton) instead of being turned into bottom dwellers is confusing.
Well Beauty and the Beast was spared.

A lot of Disney live action remakes are trash and unnecessary. They have completely ruined everything on what was wonderful about those animated classics. Never again will I ever see those pointless Disney live action remakes in the future. However, I will say this that the only good Disney live action remakes are The Jungle Book (both the 1994 version and the 2016 version, Cruella (2021, Cinderella (2015, and Maleficent (2014. To be honest, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010, Aladdin (2019, and 101 Dalmatians (1996) were not that bad but could never top the classics.

I was hyped to see Alice in wonderland remake in theaters because it’s Tim Burton. I saw it in theaters and liked it. Then I bought it on DVD and watched it at home and felt bored. When you take away the hype of it being a new movie and being a burton fan excited for a new movie, I really saw it was pretty dull and lifeless. Everyone seemed depressed, bored, or irritated. That was the first time I was disappointed with a Burton film. (And yes I know he would have bombs after, but I still went to see them to see for myself)

Came back to Edit - Nick Cage & Sorcerer's apprentice actor should have stuck as playing Hiccup should have NEVER happened. NEVER. ORIGINAL >>>Besides the what we can all tell is just winning over touching a childhood favorite. They were all fine. Some not needed since shot for shot copying made me just go back to the original (yep Lion King talking about you) but they all made their own stand alone movies which can be appreciated on their own and revitalized interested in the animated.

Personally, i dont understand why people hate the live-action remakes.
Its a way for a younger generation to connect with Disney the way the older generations connected with Disney through the animation films!
Personally, someone like me who grew up in the 90s: The Golden Age of Disney; its a fun way to see classic Disney animations made into live-action films!

I detest the Alice film because it ruined the legacy of the original and timeless Lewis Carroll books. The acting was good and it was visually stunning, but the screenplay was abysmal. Yes, Alice and Looking-Glass are fantasy stories, but not every fantasy is this Narnia/LOTR setting where time stands still in the real world (something which the 90s manga and anime series Magic Knight Rayearth also did well, and there's this cliched battle of good versus evil.

Aladdin was actually a really good movie. Yeah, some of the acting choices were a bit questionable and alot less desireable. And nobody will ever replace the late Robin Williams as an amazing Genie. But I felt Will Smith did an great job portraying Genie. Will it be the best Genie No! But Smith did great and and made the movie tolerable to watch in my opinion. Which is more positive I can say than the other Disney movie remakes.

How is Beauty and the Beast not on here! They literally just did the same thing as the original except for overcomplicating the stakes, making Beast pretty unlikable and just feeling like a less passionate version of the first animated film to get a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. Say what you will about the Oscars, but that was a big deal at the time.

The only live action remake I enjoyed was Cruella. It felt like a new take on the character and I adored the costume designs and punk rock atmosphere. Cruella was an entertaining main character, all the acting was fantastic, and the Baroness was a phenomenal antagonist.

In my opinion, ALL of Disney’s recent live action remakes are garbage. Although, I actually liked Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Just make new original movies and don’t ruin our childhoods with these messy remakes. But, to be honest, not just the remakes are bad right now

I would put Mulan at #1, what a blatant character assasination. Also, it's wild to me that the kids' animated movie somehow captured the gravitity and severity of war more effectively than the mature adult version. 2020 Mulan is, in every sense of the phrase, a garbage movie.

I like how Disney hires famous directors and gives them nothing to work with: for example, Tim Burton directing Dumbo or Robert Zemeckis directing Pinocchio. Even with Alice in Wonderland, Burton got an opportunity to bring some of his style, but not with Dumbo

Seems as though some of the live-action Disney remakes took all the fun, color and joy out of them, not to mention leaving very little style and all substance. Talk about missing the mark completely. Still, I have a soft spot with the 101 Dalmatians remake.

I respectfully disagree with Aladdin being on here. Citing Robin Williams(Rest in Peace) cannot be replaced. Well DUH. I think Will did an absolutely amazing job with the role he played. I do agree there are some minor gripes but overall, Aladdin was FINE.
