I love Top Gun: Maverick. I think why it became such a success, was because of both nostalgia, and because everything was mostly done with practical effects. Like having the actors up on actual F-18s, with cameras in the cockpits, getting the real deal of the G-forces on pilots, and not in some mock-up in a sound stages using green screens and CGI (of course some had to be used for certain scenes. As someone growing up with practical effects, I'm getting tired of movies made nearly only with green screens and CGI in sound stages, so this movie was a gift.

Instead of the DCEU making The Flash,
it should've been Batman Beyond.
Starring:
Tanner Buchanan as Terry McGinnis / Batman III
Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman II
Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman I
Chris O'Donnell as Richard Grayson / Agent 37
Ted Danson as Derek Powers / Blight
Jim Carrey as Edward Nygma / Hush
Dave Bautista as Bane
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as The Joker (TDK)
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze
Danny DeVito as The Penguin

I personally think Fury Road or Creed should be #1. For me personally I felt Top Gun Maverick copied exact beats to the original until the end, still great movie but I didn’t feel like I got something new out of it. While Creed was similar to the first Rocky, the different dynamics and camera work to get the fights made it different enough for it to be amazing.

Seeing _Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens_ start this list off made me further rethink my initial hate for the film. It has a high spot in my _Star Wars_ pantheon now that I appreciate it for what it is: a true legacy sequel.

Force Awakens was an almost shot-for-shot remake of A New Hope, just with different characters, while also only displaying a superficial understanding of the franchise itself. Its lack of originality doomed the entire sequel trilogy.

Top Gun Maverick is certainly amazing, it draws me and has more heart then what it looks like
Creed is also an underestimated legacy movie, and while I did not like some choices in the sequels, it was a great return and story

Top Gun Maverick is EASILY the best legacy sequel ever made.
It had everything against it, including the pandemic. Tom held out and my god that film blew people out of the water.

Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII, IX (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi & The Rise Of Skywalker, Spider-Man 3: No Way Home, & Top Gun 2: Maverick are my favorite legacy sequels ever!

Maverick was even better than the original film, since it was more mature in tone, and allowed for the characters to grow up as well during the thirty six years between installments.

The standards bar must be very low if you can think of 10 films for this list. And having quickly glanced though the video, I can confirm, yes, yes it is very low.

Bad Boys For Life is hugely under appreciated and needs more credit, it’s a create legacy sequel and becoming one of the best buddy cop franchises.
reply

Spider-Man No Way Home was shocking seeing the return of two Spider-Man from different Multiverse one Raimiverse and oneThe Amazing Spider-Man universe
reply

I just said that instead of us getting Scream 7 they're going to reboot the series. Which we all know that reboots are not really known for being good
reply

Most of these movies aren’t worthy to be mentioned in the Top 10.
It demonstrates that they should’ve stopped while they were ahead.

reply

They need to do a list of sequels that did NOT contribute to the original. Friday the 13th part 2, Halloween 3, Godfather 3, etc.
reply

Calling the Star Wars sequel trilogy anything other than a steaming puddle of diarrhea is giving it waaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit.
reply

Legacy sequels are a mixed bag. You either get a decent one like A Christmas Story Christmas or a terrible one like 2015's Vacation
