The reason why most people cut theirs off, is because you can actually reattach them later if you start to miss them: )
So let's say I wanted to chop my dreads off, I would cut them and have short hair. I would have to wait for it to grow out a little
bit before reattaching my old dreads to the new hair.
Also, dreadlocks (or dreadies as I call them) are all about patience. You have to wait until they reach maturity before they really
develop their own look, that's the fun of it: ) (that and doing wraps and beads for them too)

I brushed my dreadlocks out, and it took 2 weeks, but I'm a homemaker who homeschools, so I basically only had time for 2-6 per day, and that was with cutting away half of the length first.
Side note about the combs: you basically have to pick out the knots from the bottom up with a single tooth from a comb, preferably plastic to prevent as much breakage as possible.

Actually dread extensions are a very popular thing to do! As you know hair takes time to grow and dreads take even longer, so you can just extend them and have the nice feeling of long hair right away

When I was a hairdresser I specialized in disaster hair. Got a flobie stuck on your head? I was your girl. Drunk cut? I will fix it. Dread locks? I have brushed out soo many! It is deeply satisfying.
