Hairdresser reacts to cute dog haircuts
video description
That little dog was a very timid and fearful creature she was raised in a neglectful puppy mill and after my grandma saved her, she really wasnt habituated to anyone else. Gramma would do some trimming and upkeep at home and an occasional groomers visit to give her the works when she had the money.
Anyway, by the time my grandma was in the hospital, our household was focused on getting her taken care of and getting through the day, and very little else. Cookie kind of slipped by the wayside. But in between working full time and sleeping at the hospital so gramma wasnt there alone, one night I was feeding cookie and noticed she was so grown out that the fur on her paws was close to being matted. I didnt want it to end up getting that bad, so I filled up the bathroom sink with warm water and puppy shampoo she was terrified at first, honestly I think she was too scared to bark at me. Id never seen her so stiff. But when you do massage them during the bath, they both feel good and seem to understand easier that youre trying to help them, not torture them. My gramma was always one to baby-talk this dog, and I would occasionally do so since I knew she liked it, but I simply could not keep that up for as long as it would take to clean this poor animal, let alone trim her. But lullabies worked a charm.
She was so little that, for the icky hair around her eyes and on the rest of her face, I just ended up using a sharp new pair of cuticle scissors. I let her sniff them, I rubbed her muzzle and around her eyes with my fingertips to get her used to that area being touched and worked with, and I opened and closed the scissors while I did it. She wasnt necessarily having a fun time of it, but by the time I actually used them to start cutting away the hair that was caked with eye boogers even after her bath, she wasnt fearful and she didnt pull away. She was just kind of chilling.
I took over her grooming essentially from then until my gramma passed away, and after that first time she wasnt scared of what I was doing, and she only retained that nervous-but-Ill-tolerate-this vibe for the first ten minutes of the bath the next few times. But I never had any issues with her even seeming scared afterward, let alone giving me any trouble while I trimmed her. Meanwhile this is the same dog that used to bark at me and try to bite me if I so much as stood too close to my grammas chair while we talked, for the first two years my gramma had her. If youre willing to be patient and show the dog that youre going to use their trust for good, its surprising how calm they can be for even the parts of grooming that they dont like. (I also did some more minor trimming on my moms dog in the same time period after having success with the littler dog, she was more trusting of people but extremely hyper food motivation can work to your advantage there lol)

Let me tell you, LET ME TELL YOU- I took my tiny chihuahua girl, Pinka to PetSmart to get groomed- shes a sweetie pie, wears XXS tutu dresses and everything is pink and glittery. Thats not really me but shes the second best thing in my life (my daughter is the first and shes as girly too and theyre my princesses and my loves. PetSmart gave my little girl a mohawk. a mohawk! Its cute but not on my princess girl. So yea. I never asked for one but it took months to go away, I even put hairspray on it to tame it

If you were to react to dog grooming again, I'd recommend Girl With The Dogs! She's a Canadian groomer who mostly grooms dogs, but sometimes grooms cats as well. She also explains the process as she goes and names the tools she uses. The styles she does for animals aren't as elaborate as the ones in this video, but she gives more info on how grooming works and what each tool is for. And I would argue that the pets are just as cute as the ones in this video: D

As someone who taught themselves to groom westy cuts and schnauzer cuts, it's actually not as hard as you would think. Most of it is clippers and guards. Then you just use the sheers to do the finishing. Also I loved how blown away Brad was by the curved sheers. I guess since I have been grooming my own dogs for about 7 years, they are just part of the scissor kit.

These dogs have likely been going to the groomer for a long while so theyre used to it. I know my dog would hate going lol. She gets a home bath once a month and already doesnt like that. I cant image how shed react if I came close to her with scissors. Whoever we rescued her from definitely didnt take her to the groomer regularly.

I have a little 4lbs Maltese and she get her hair cut like the first dog. She loves getting her hair done. I think its call a Japanese cut. I brought several pictures of how I wanted it. She love her hair up in Piggies tails, ponie tails and even clothes. People mistake her for a stuffed dog.

As someone that worked at dog facilities and helped the groomers/did some grooming, yes people bring in pictures and are like I want this, but sometimes they are just like do what ever XD
Most owners just want an easy to maintain clip and/or sani clip though, or just a bath and brush

Those two little dogs totally have Bob Ross in a snowstorm energy, I love it.
Also love seeing Brad react even more strongly to cute little dogs than me; did my heart so much good! I needed that today.

I have 7 dogs- one is an albino Chihuahua and I cannot get rid of his tear stains. The vet says it's because he's albino and the oxygen in his blood oxidizes or whatever.

the dogs need their fur, theres nothing cute about leaving animals without their natural defences, its borderline abuse.
/ only the last one was okay

I think the natural progression to this video are either him grooming his dog or him apprenticing for a day under a professional dog groomer
