Gordon makes some not-so-average baked beans, adding chilli, garlic and pancetta to spice things up. A brilliant breakfast to start the day. Once hot, add the pancetta, a little pepper and the chilli and fry until cooked through but not crisping. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, then add the onion and cook over a low heat until completely tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in half the sugar, then add the vinegar. Boil for 1 minute, then add Worcestershire sauce to taste. Stir in the passata and season with a good pinch of salt and pepper, the remaining sugar and a couple of shakes of Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes. Add the beans and cook for a further 510 minutes, until the sauce has reduced and thickened and the beans are really soft and tender. Meanwhile, make the potato cakes. Mash the boiled potatoes until smooth (or use a potato ricer, add the butter and mix well. Add 4 tablespoons of the flour along with a pinch of salt and pepper and stir well. The aim is to form a dough, so add a little more flour if necessary. Using your hands, roll pieces of the dough into balls just larger than a golf ball. Place them on a lightly floured work surface and flatten them into little cakes about 1cm thick. Chill for 20 minutes. Place a heavy-based frying pan over a medium heat and add a dash of olive oil. When hot, fry the potato cakes on either side (in batches if necessary) until golden and crisping slightly. While cooking, season with a pinch of salt and add a small knob of butter to the pan. Drain the cakes on kitchen paper to remove any excess oil. Taste and adjust the seasoning of the beans as necessary, adding a little more vinegar and/or Worcestershire sauce, as well as salt and pepper. Serve alongside the warm potato cakes. HOW TO FRY POTATOES WITH BUTTERButter gives a lovely rich finish to fried potato, but it burns more easily than oil. For best results, start with oil and then add butter towards the end of your cooking time, using a spoon to baste the potatoes as the butter froths up.

Heres one with less fuss: 1. Pan-heat-oil2. Onions-garlic3. Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco (brown sugar if you want, I put Chili and ginger powder too)4. curry paste (the heart of the recipe. A tablespoon will do)5. Canned beans (yep, but this is a breakfast meal and its good because you dont need to add the tomato sauce) 6. Turn off heat and add cheese, then mix it around till it melts with the beans7. Toast some bread and serve

I just made them after his recipe (took white sugar instead and regular vinegar) and its really tasty but sooooo spicy. Next time ill make three times more with one chili. I was coughing so hard when the chili was in the pan And this meal is done so quickly: )

Okay I know Gordon is a great chef. But does anyone realize how greasy and unhealthy a lot of the food is seeing he doesnt really drain any of the grease from the bacon or pat off the extra grease from the potato cakes?

Id like to know what is the nutritional content in this recipee. I mean how many calories, protein, hidrocarbonates, fat, sugar you know. Just to have an idea of what I am eating. although delicious.

I have to say, I tried this recipe and it was delicious. I often cook this to accompany any of those BBQ style meats for my guests or friends. However I still prefer the Heinz Bake bean on top of my toast.

Pretty tasty recipe You get a burst of flavor in that tomato sauce. The dish is really filling too Great way to get some protein, and feed a family. Not that hard to make either.

Stop saying he should try working for Hells Kitchen because he owns it and dont say that he should go onto masterchef because hes already a master chef and a judge on masterchef.
