The biggest issue with eating pineapple outside of a relatively small radius of where it is grown is the fact that, unlike many fruits, it actually _stops_ ripening when it is picked. The source of the enzyme that turns a pineapple's starches into sugars is in the body of the main plant, not its fruit. Once picked, that pineapple has about 98% of the sugars it will ever have now, with the final 2% coming from what enzymes remain. You can't ripen a pineapple after picking, no matter what 'common knowledge says.
That means that the only way to get ripe pineapple is to _pick_ ripe pineapple. Unfortunately, once ripe it doesn't take more than a week or so before it starts to rot. So you need to be within that 7-10 day picking-travel-stocking range to get good pineapple. For Hawaiian pineapple The West Coast of the US and Mexico is about it. Anything east of that will get unripe pineapple. The 'Gulf states' of the US get theirs from Costa Rica and Brazil, but again anything north of that is getting unripe pineapples. The countries of the South East Asia and Australia region have a better chance of getting ripe pineapples than Washington D. C. does; Thailand, Indonesia, China, and the Philippines all grow pineapples.

OMG. A majority of second-gen Asian Americans can relate to Spam being in the cupboard. My grandma, who couldn't speak English, had to babysit me for 2 weeks when I was a preteen. She asked my mom what I liked to eat, and mom said Spam. For two weeks there were 4 slices of Spam next to my breakfast cereal, in my lunchbox and for dinner. Every time I tried not to eat it, my grandma's hurt look was so vivid that I had to choke it down. I haven't eaten Spam since. However, it does symbolize my grandma's love.

I work at a Hawaiian restaurant and this is one of my favorite sandwich's. On top of what he did, add an egg, fresh green onion, and a slice of white American cheese. Literally my breakfast every Monday and usually every other Wednesday. Instead of the Fresno I do a dash of Sambal hot sauce, but effectively the same purpose in the dish.
If you make this, be prepared to wash your hands afterwards or eat it with gloves. Totally worth it.

Still not me. I have never been so disgusted by Chef Ramsay. If I had to choose between that sandwich and something from Cooking with Jack, I have to think about it. But I still think I'd try my luck with Jack. Don't take offense, Chef. I just hate spam that much. The garbage disposal of meat. If it's meat.

Spam is already incredibly salty to the point where when I make spam fried rice I almost use zero salt and its still salty. I cant imagine salting the buns and the peppers and everything this much. And my man really put extra mayo sauce on the burnt bun and not the others to cover up the black burnt bit lol. This reminds me of a grilled cheese video i once saw.

I tried spam a couple weeks ago for the first time. They have the single slices for 75 cents and then the cans of it for 2 bucks. Right next to those vienna sausage things which have like 20 different flavors. The spam was not great, just had no taste, it was like if you took a hot dog and removed 99% of the flavor and texture.

Just so he could learn to understand how life is expensive here in the US. I’m pretty sure it’s not as cheap over there in Scotland where he’s from.

I’d argue it’d also go great with Birds Eye chilies, Scorpion Chilies, or even the infamous Carolina Reaper, though TBH I’d add a Gorgeous runny fried egg with a nearly orange yolk and replace the shallots with a beet pickled white onion. Thank you for the inspiring content Gordon!

I love SPAM even though I can only eat it once or thrice in a year during holiday seasons since it's so expensive but I have never tried eating it with pineapple. Gonna try it soon.
