Nang Loeng Market ) is one of my favorite market areas in Bangkok. Read more here: There are many many markets and street food areas in Bangkok, but one of the oldest and most preserved in the city, is Nang Loeng Market. Located in the central part of the city, the community has been around a couple of hundred years now. The market itself was opened officially in 1900, and since then it has been a gathering place for people in the community to socialize and eat. There are many options for food at Nang Loeng Market, and there's actually an entire food court that's opened at lunchtime, but my favorite restaurant in the area, one that I keep coming back to time and time again is the rice and curry restaurant on the corner known as Khao Gaeng Ruttana ( This street food rice and curry restaurant has been around for a long time, and it has some serious character to it. It's the type of place where ancient fans are wobbling back and forth, there are cobwebs hanging in the rafters, and the food is always outstanding. Though there's plenty of food to try at Nang Loeng Market, I can't help myself heading straight to eat rice and curry. When you eat Thai rice and curry, you don't always know what will be on the menu, you just have to go to the restaurant, look at the dishes that are available for the day, point to them, and order them. At Khao Gaeng Ruttana ) you can either choose to order for takeaway and they will pack your food into plastic bags, or you can choose to sit down and eat right there. I like to eat there to enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and the awesome atmosphere. I ordered a number of things this meal, including a fish cooked in chili sauce, a curry of coconut milk and lotus stems, but my favorite thing of the meal was the yam makua yao, a salad made of roasted eggplant mixed with chilies, dry shrimp, shallots, and all dressed in lime juice and fish sauce. If that's already not good sounding enough, I ordered it with a hard boiled egg on the bottom, which was soft cooked so the egg was still slightly runny on the inside yolk. It was absolutely sensational, so good that I could not resist ordering a second plate to devour while I was there. It was amazing. If you visit Bangkok and are interested in exploring food and history, Nang Loeng Market ) is one of the best places I recommend to visit. Like I mentioned, there are many places to eat, depending on your preference, like egg noodles or tom yum noodles, but my absolute favorite spot is Khao Gaeng Ruttana ) for their delicious Thai rice and curry dishes. Do some exploring and enjoy Nang Loeng Market. Nang Loeng Market ) Open hours: Around 8 am - 3 pm How to get there: Nang Loeng Market is not close to any mass transit train stations, so it's easiest to hop in a taxi and go directly there. It's pretty close to Democracy Monument, about a 10 minute walk

out of all your video I seen this is my favorite. when you took your first bite into the eggplant salad that face expression was priceless. just by that face expression alone I knew it must have been the best tasting dish ever. I had to tell my mother to make that for me instantly. Now it's one of my favorite dish of all time keep doing a good job.

Aww, nostalgia I used to go to that market often when I was in school. I haven't seen it for over 20 years. The area has such charming old buildings and great food. I remember the roast duck and rice, deep fried bananas and Thai-styled cocunut pudding. By the way, the lotus stem curry is one of my favourite things in the world: )

Hey Mark Love the videos I have a question, I am going to Thailand in September to teach English I am so a excited but I m worried because I have a nut allergy and I know lots of food is cooked with peanuts etc. Do you know any dishes that aren't that you could let me know about? Or do you have any advice about it? Thanks xx

Hi Mark, it's me again. That ice water that you had with this dish, how can I order that? Does it come automatically with the dish? Or do we have to order it? I have been eating in stalls like this several times but they never give me the water. My friend told me the water is for free, but how to get it? Thank you: )

Great video again mark But I have been to Thailand twice and each time I've tried the street food venders or market food venders like this one I've ended up really sick so now I'm frightened to eat anything Can you give me some advice on picking somewhere and how to select safe food to eat, ThanksPaul.

Mark, how do you handle that extreme spice? I mean, bird's eye chillies packs a PUNCH Yet you still add them to your rice. Love your vlogs, hope you visit and do Vlogs about Philippine cuisines. I mean not the common ones, but the rare ones in the provinces. Thanks and KUDOS to you (_. v.

I went to that place yesterday. They served my three dishes on one plate. I think there was maybe a spoon of each dish. I paid 90 for it and had to eat more in different place. I was really disappointed because I saw that they gave big rations to local people for take away.

Great video as always Mark. I gauge how good the meals are by the extent of your facial expressions and based on that, this meal has to be a top 10 at least. Thumbs up if you watch these videos to see Marks patented facial expressions when he eats. lol
