I show you how I made an enchanted fairy house lamp using nothing but coca cola plastic bottles, tin foil, paint, hot glue and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination. I first glued the bottles together in the position I wanted. Then I cut the bottoms of the bottles. Next step is to build the shape of the house using tin foil and hot glue. This is a fast way to achieve a basic volume that will be the base for our paper clay. We are also marking with tin foil the places where the windows will be on the plastic bottles. Considering it will be a lamp you should draw as many windows as you can so the light will come out nicely. I made some mushrooms under some of my windows. I used some metal wire from a hanger for the curly roofs and for the leaf from above the door. You should now have the general shape of your fairy house. Cover everything with paper clay. You can work in one layer or, if you are a beginner you should work in two layers, one for covering the surface and the second one for the details like windows, door, wood texture, bark, mushrooms, door steps, curly roofs. After the paper clay is dry you can easily add more details using tin foil and hot glue, like I did for some of the windows. Let everything dry. I used watercolors and acrylic paint for painting because I like working in layers and be able to change if I don't like the way it looks. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish. I placed some battery LED lights under the house. I recommend you use soft lights that will gently illuminate your windows so it looks like a real house. DON'T USE HOT LIGHTS!

Hi, I have been trying to create these lovely fairy houses, and I am having issues, that: 1- They crack shortly after having created them, (no matter how thick, and different types of clay) I have used. 2- I have used Mod Podge, Elmers glue, with water to hold them together, after the first incident, and 3- They are not easy as you make it seem. At this point I am truly discouraged at at attempting these projects. >(

You make that look so easy. You did inspire me to give it a go and I just finished my 1st fairy house. Of course mine isn't anywhere nearly as amazing as you work but it was very therapeutic and a lot of fun. I'm gonna try this one next. Wish me luck

Quick question, about how much clay would you say you used for this project? I plan to buy the same clay you used, but I want to make sure I'm getting at least the proper amount

This is so beautiful! I have tried the house with air dry clay and it cracked all over. Do i need to use paper clay? I do not want to make the same mistake. Please help!
