I'm glad you addressed this. I've learned to weather those failed attempts, push through them & give myself pep talks. It's just one painting, keep at it, the next one will be better, everyone has an off day, etc. Another tactic I use is comparing this to a favorite musician or band I follow. Even they have a song that is not up to their genius level so if THEY can have a clunker, then a little peon like me is allowed to have a (or a lot) of stinker pieces of art.
Sometimes you might just be over critical of your work. If you put it away for awhile then look at it with fresh eyes, it may not seem half as bad. In my case, being a bit ) older than you, I can't help thinking, Geez, I should know how to do this by now and shouldn't have any bad art days! But, in reality, everyone has those failed pieces no matter how old or experienced they are.

I feel what you're saying schaef. Overworking a painting or having self doubts on your abilities. Most of the time we are or own worse critics. I guess one way change that is to take what you consider your best painting or drawing and hang it in your studio, so that you can see it everyday and tell yourself, -Hey, I am good at this. I can paint, I have talent. -Even though, as you say, -we mess up from time to time-, we can and will do better. Keep up the good fight schaef, and I will as well.

Recently watched your whole drawing course and was satisfied! I hope someday you return to add techniques to gesture drawings, or anything in the realm of realistic person like drawing, thank you in advance.

My aunt would get disappointed if she did not win or place at an art show. Also, she would get frustrated if she felt a painting was finished in a day or two. Most of her great paintings were done over weeks.

My favorite animal! this was a good lesson for me today. I did a beautiful painting but the composition was a bit off. . I was going for a different composition and it did not come out right. Thanks.

I am so new to drawing/watercoloring. It has been about 3 months. I struggle all the time because my mind thinks my art is good, but what's on the paper says otherwise! Lol. Thanks for sharing this!

Gotta agree with this stoic approach. An artist in the right frame of mind will anticipate the peak of a wave and catch it. Waves come and go but we gotta keep paddling.
