When we study anatomy, we-re focused so much on structure, we tend to forget about gesture. I-ll show you how to hit that balance and draw dynamic anatomy. Get more critiques at One thing I-ve noticed the longer I-ve been teaching anatomy, is how some of you are sacrificing the fluidity of your drawings so you can get the technical parts of the muscle right. Learning anatomy is tough and one of the traps some artists fall into is focusing too much on form and not enough on gesture. This will make your drawings stiff. In this critique video I-ll show you the importance of gesture and how to keep your anatomy studies dynamic. If you haven-t seen my video on gesture or it-s been a while, go check it out. I-ve listed it below along with the lesson on the anatomy of deltoids. In my experience the correct understanding of anatomy is enabling art students to apply gesture correctly. Gesture is in the end nothing more like a very abstract breakdown of anatomical principles and is arising somewhat automatically once a profound and struggle free understanding of the anatomy is achieved. I don't think they should be treated as seperate instances.

Student: How did you like my anatomy study?
Proko: The anatomy was perfect, but surprise! I'm also grading you on gesture! Sit down.
