Hi I have a question for you. I have a weird living situation as I m a traveling nurse, but I m finding a passion for gardening. I have my starts growing under a light in my shower that we ve converted into a greenhouse, but it s going to come time to move the troops outdoors here soon. I d like to do a container garden so we can move them when we change living locations, would you recommend grow bags, 5 gallon buckets, or another method? I ve built a two tier stand to hold the containers, I just don t really know what to use. Thanks so much: )

How fantastic! That s my dream greenhouse. I m also in the SD area, and I d be curious about putting a gutter and rain barrel on at least one corner. I swear by rain barrels here. Having lived in Florida for many years previously, I would definitely want to try to grow a mango tree in there, if I could keep it to an appropriate size. Did you also have the hail we had a couple of days ago? I would think your thick panes of glass lived through that. I hope so. Congratulations and good luck with your wonderful new growing space!

Super cool video! I'm really looking forward to videos on growing coffee and vanilla! I've been all over Latin America and love walking amongst coffee plants. They're super decorative and beautiful. They can be kept small and produce quite a bit of fruit. I recommend at least two more for a harvest that is worth the time and effort. When I was in Cuba i stayed with a family that would dry the beans on their roof and roast them in the kitchen. Really delicious, aromatic, chocolaty flavor! Best of luck!

I learned from my grandpa that if you want to optimize the flow of the fan, you would need to install it a few inches/cm away from the windows(towards the inside) and use the Bernouli principle to exhaust more air faster and thus use less electricity. Just offset the fan towards the inside a bit and get better results. It would of course be better to ask the designers of the structure for further advice on this, but my grandpa did it DIY on his greenhouse and worked great for many years.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but at 4: 27 saying 15F = -9. 44C doesn't really convey what you mean to say here. While that point on the Fahrenheit scale corresponds to that point on the Celsius scale, that doesn't mean that's the equivalent difference. 85F = approximately 29. 44C, so a difference of 15 degrees on the F scale corresponds to a difference of about 8. 33 degrees on on the C scale.

I have a greenhouse in SoCal too, 9b. You might want to start looking into adding a swamp cooler soon. From my experience with a similar vent and fan setup, it's not nearly enough bring the temperature down to a manageable level once the outside temperature begins to rise. I never tried a shade cloth myself, but I can't imagine that doing enough either. Good luck!

Your new greenhouse is Wonderful! Congratulations.
I'm left wondering about a couple of things. in the end what did you do to keep the gravel from sliding out from underneath the structure. And what did you do with the amazing wooden box it came in? If your not going to use it i hope you pass it on to Jacque to make something from it for his garden.

First thing first. what ever you do, don't encourage the crows! You have not livedd in hell until you have a rookery! It rains. Rains constantly. and you can guess what it rains. The noise is beyond belief. Looking forward to following your Greenhouse adventures. my wife and I are about to embark on the same. We are about 800 miles north of you.

what about some sort of transparent plastic shelving to minimize light loss to plants below, that would be cool. I'm in a cold climate and has this idea of a bank of black 55-gallon barrels on the north side with a plexiglass top as a bench area, the plexiglass would allow light to warm up the black barrels as a heat sink.

Celsius: sure, an outside temp of 15 F IS -9 celsius (- telle you it s below freezing for water.
A delta of 15 F however, is a delta of 8. 2 Celsius.
1F = 0. 55 C, but they don t have the same stzrting poijnt.
The freezing point of water is 32 F and 0 C.
Yikes. Americans, get up to spped with the world

I had an interesting thought while watching this. Do you think you could create a beneficial environment if you placed one of these over the pond reservoir? I'm thinking you could achieve a high humidity environment that would only be possible in a rainforest allowing you to grow some really interesting things.

I WISH I could have a greenhouse, I already have a shed on a cement slab in my backyard I d replace. But there is now way because I live in South Florida and you know hurricanes But I have neighborhood rats and a greenhouse would be better than the chicken wire cages I have around my plants currently.

Congratulations! Awesome greenhouse, looking forward to many episodes of what's going on with it, and within it. I was wondering if you might have looked into a solar power setup for your fan? Just wondering how well it would work, it certainly would be the green way to go.
