110% on overdoing the initial seedlings. My mom always says something about how I always start out planting too much, but between some varieties or whole selections having bad germination, plants dying in the house before even going outside, plants dying in the initial hardening-off period (wind, animals, etc, plants just going bad, and that's just before they really start in the true garden itself. Then there's dying during transplanting, animals, weather, etc etc. I had Carolina Reaper pepper that I only had a dozen seeds for and I was worried this Spring, and sure enough--I now have only 2 plants growing. But that's more than enough anyway--growing for a friend from work, and I doubt that he's going to need that many. And even if you do have good success on some stuff, that's even better: we give lots of stuff to the neighbors who are getting old and can't do much gardening anymore and we give lots to the food bank too. Or if we can't make it there before they would go bad (12 miles to the local food bank from our farm, that's food for the compost pile for next year's garden. You never really lose, especially if you collect some of your own seeds

Decided I would try to grow a few vegetables this year on a whim at the grocery store and bought some seeds. Well now it s a few months later, I m growing several herbs, carrots, tomatoes, garlic, peas, lettuce etc I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Especially since I m trying to grow mostly indoors in containers with no grow lights, it seems like taking care of these plants is practically a full time job. Growing basil and rosemary was easy, vegetables are another story so yeah I m working harder than I need to most likely. There are a lot of big trees on my property as well so the light is inconsistent throughout the day so I end up dragging these huge containers to different areas all over the place every day. It s a lot of work but at my location it s the only way for them to get full sun all day

Been doing it for 10 years and two things that seem to matter most, organized layout and effective method for weeds prevention. Weeding can be very time consuming
You want raised beds in organized rows and the walking aisle to be flat, clean and easy to walk around in. I use pine bark mulch on my paths each year but it's not enough against the amaranth. This year I'm installing weed barrier fabric.

As a fellow rock climber in my 50s, I have lots of pain reliever products and gadgets. I have my cut-n-come again mesclun mix and my herbs and tomatoes right out the back door. But every other plant is farther away. Namely, fruit trees. But that's what wheelbarrows are for, right?

I have a question. I live in an area that has a lot of small mammals such as rabbits. Would the tall beds solve the problem of them damaging crops? We have a fencer around the property to keep deer out but small creatures can easily get through the openings. Thank you!

A square floatation device made for watercraft is the best padding I've found for the knees, superior to my knee pads. Learned it watching a construction worker using one. I'm an old dog and I learned a new trick that day.

Ask friends if they have an old yoga mat. They are super easy to cut and make great kneelers.
Cutting one in half gives you enough space if you want to sit down or just fold over to kneel.
Easy to clean if needed.

The bucket of tools is an idea I use. I usually have a zip lock bag of seeds that need to be put in as I go. I have my twine in there as well. A frozen water bottle for me.

I love the bucket of tools. Conservation of limited energy is genius of any chore. I loved handled chore grab alls for inside chores as well. Great on limits of time.

I just put a deck box together to put out in the garden to hold tools and other necessessities right there where I'll use them.
