Houseplant Care: Bring Your Houseplant Back to Life!

Let's face it - we don't always take perfect care of our plants. If you've ever had a houseplant that's started to droop or die off, here's a simple care recipe to bring it back to life. Often times it's as simple as: 1. Remove dead plant matter 2. Repot in a slightly larger pot 3. Refresh the soil and add in new organic matter 4. Give it a GOOD soak 5. Leave it in perfect conditions and pray!

Okay Kevin. So I get this vid is three years old. But I came across it because I have this Ravenea that looks way worse than your dracaena did at the time of this video. Anyway my peeve - or inquiry - is why in the heck do garden centers sell plants that are inevitably not going to thrive in the zone in which theyre selling the plant. And why on earth would they sell a non-native plant? Its annoying to a new gardener like myself who just doesnt know any better. Im a tad wiser now. Thanks to gardeners like yourself I follow. But its something not often talked about even in the gardening world. I mean that Ravenea looked so gorgeous at the garden center. I dont think I can revive mine (zone 8a.

My plant is dying and it had a mealybug infestation. I changed the soil, cleaned the plant's leaves with dish soap and peppermint oil, and the leaves all just dropped and started to fall off. I am devastated. I really want to save mynplant because there is new growth. I just dont know what to do because cleaning the plants leaves and caring for the leaves makes it worse! You can see all the little bite marks on the dead leaves where the bugs were.

Hi mate my I got same plant but it's little tall. It was a gift given by neighbours but they didn't tell us where to keep it. We kept this plant outside for past 6 months but 2 days ago I found that most of the leaves gone crispy brown so now I brought it inside
I think because we kept it outside during winter that's why leaves went brown. Please guide me and provide some suggestions if we should keep it outside or inside?

I didn't realize such a tiny plant could need a bigger pot. My dracena (just found out it is one) is taller and I haven't repotted it yet and the leaves are dropping. I'm definitely going to do what you recommended! I can't wait to see this plant thrive because then I can propagate it. New plants for free yeehaw always the goal

I have a big dragon tree plant that looks like it's struggling similarly. Some of its lower tufts are doing so poorly that if I touch them the leaves immediately fall off (not brown leaves, but normal green ones. I suspect in this case the cause is overwatering, or improper drainage. Any suggestions for remedying that?

Pretty sure mine is on it's way to take the big plant nap. The top looks rotten and the stem is a pale color. I tried to keep it alive I was thinking about cutting off the top to see if new leaves would grow since the roots seem fine. I feel so bad because it was a housewarming gift.

My basil my sister bought was neglected and dying so I made it my mission to save it and once it grew and healed I put it into my garden which Im still new to and cant wait to see it grow with everything else I got going: ) Im 24 and live alone so still a little new for me in routine

Mine is only getting new growth right at the top and the long stalky trunk where the dead leaves have gone have stayed bare, is this normal? Also I can't catch what you put in the soil extra. Have you got links or just the names will do please?

If the plant is 'dying' or stressed, repotting it is likely the last thing it needs. It's like moving house when you have a broken leg. In the case of the video, the plant was healthy, just had some dead old leaves (which came off easily).

My fading plant also is a dracaena funnily enough, so I did everything you said to in this video. It took several weeks but its leaves are all bushy and happy now and it looks great! Thanks so much for this old video, it 100% helped me.

I reported mine into a smaller pot because I put it into too big a pot and was getting very full on top and lanky on the bottom. When I transplanted I cut some of the very thick roots. Will this hurt

Hey so my plants leaves are ALL falling off idk wat to do plz help me i had also repotted it three days before this happened, idk if i overwatered it cuz the stem all the way from the top turned white/yellow
reply

Even those yellow leaves you left there mean the plant is underwatered? I thought my dracaena's yellow leaves were due to overwatering (and maybe it is as I haven't seen crispy brown leaves)

I did this for a couple of house plants. They still died. I have fingers-of-death where houseplants are concerned!
However worm-castings is something I havent tried. Third times a charm.
