Love your videos, they are very helpful. Nevertheless I am a bit surprised that you are promoting and buying peat moss for your garden. Extracting peat moss is devastating for the environment and has been boycotted by many gardeners. Peat moss locks in large amounts of CO2 for the planet but using it in gardening releases the CO2 and contributes to global warming. In addition, extracting peat moss from its environments destroys fragile eco systems that cannot be replaced easily and these are now in danger of extinction. You clearly understand the importance of soil in gardening so it would be great if you checked out these facts out and stopped recommending people to buy it Otherwise, thank you for your videos and enthusiasm. They are great!

Horse manure rocks all over other types of manure. Find a horse stable that sells manure or is willing to donate. You just have to be careful of the horses' diet: no pesticides, herbicides, and alfalfa is a problem. Some people use only horse manure or horse manure compost in their raised vegetable beds and nothing else, and their plants do vey well.

My plants are dying, and we used organic soil from Lowes. Friend told me to fertilize so I used fish fertilizer she recommended and they still got more yellow. We added Rod one salts, and stopped watering. Then Added compost a friend recommended and worms. I'm lost and don't know what to do. I'm in the Temecula valley not far from you. Help!

I think it would be great if you did more videos like this, i. e. videos of you helping people who dont know a lot but want to get into gardening. You could take them shopping and everything. If you take the show on the road, I could be your Waco, TX student. We could buy seeds at the silos from Chip and Jo: )

Hi, I watched many your videos last 2 months and all good info: )
I have question. I use pre-mix raised bed soil for my beds and did not add any other stuff. After few months, lost 2' of 9' of soil. Can I mix Composted Cow Manure, Peat Moss, and garden soil and apply them on top layer of bed? Thanks.

In so glad you made this video. I live in California too and bought that same garden soil & manure, but got the soil ammendment bags instead of peat moss. Basically would be making a garden box with 70% different varieties of compost. Going to go back and grab the peatmoss and vermiculite!

Hello! Thanks so much for all this! Question on the wood - it looks like pressure treated lumber. I have some but I've been reluctant to use for beds because I keep hearing it's treated with toxic chemicals and should be avoided for vegetables. Your take? Ok to use?

Kevin what is the math to figuring out soil ratios? I'm ditching my pots and making a tower planter with peppers on top and cucumbers on the bottom (hoping the peppers provide some shade). I've used regular potting mix in my fabric pots and it's not going well

I am going to be putting some raised beds on a decomposed granite surface. Sand -> gravel -> rocks -> dirt underneath. Can I pop the raised bed right on top or should I break down the layers underneath for more access to the soil?

Coir is far better considering peat moss is removed from peat bogs, damaging the water table from where they cut peat. Coir comes from coconut plants, renewable, peat moss takes decades to regrow if it grows at all.

If the mix is typically 1/3 Peat Moss, 1/3 Vermiculite/Perlite Combo, and 1/3 Organic Matter (Manure or Compost, how do you account for the garden soil? Trying to wrap my head around making the right mixture myself. Thanks!

Hi, your video was very helpful. I have a question, did you end up adding all or some of cow and chicken manure to the first bed. I just saw peat moss, perlite and steer manure. I am very new to soil mixes. Ty
