I never thought this day would come. I woke up in London with a fever, missed a train (or two, but eventually made it 100 miles to Charles Dowding's EPIC market garden, Homeacres. The sky opened up for about an hour, and Charles shared the deep wisdom behind his garden. Charles Dowding is the godfather of the modern no-dig or no-till approach to gardening, where you NEVER till or dig down into your soil and disturb its structure and the soil life. He applies 2 of compost, once per year, and. that's it. From there, he starts transplants for most everything except for a few root crops and pops them into his beds. The compost is made on-site, as you'll see

I loved this interview! I suffer from Bipolar Disorder and I found during the pandemic that gardening was very relaxing and truly helped with my symptoms. I have since tried a variety of techniques to improve production and quality. I and my family have noticed a great improvement in my moods and mental health in general and Im loving it. I think I share Mr. Dowdings joy when he talks about the different crops. I act like a 12 year old when I talk about mine too. Thank you, Kevin! Great job interviewing this legendary man!

So so wonderful and inspiring, thank you! I have a new garden that I'm wanting to grow vegetables in and ideally I want to use the no-dig method. However, it's clay soil and is pretty dense. Am I right in thinking the soil needs to be broken up and amended first to give roots a fair chance? If I do that this year, would I be able to practice a no-dig method from the second year? Any advice would so gratefully received!

San Diego and England are great for composting. Being from the desert southwest of the United States, you have to add so much water. I'm jealous of 9 months of hot composting; the times I had success were more like a year and half the items didn't decompose completely. Especially for the home gardener. The people here that have better luck, are doing it on a much larger scale and spraying with water.

Think I'm organised
Peat free compost. is that ok? Cardboard ready to go down
Seed trays etc also ready to go
What early tatties could I plant? Although they hopefully are going to get planted in bags. My compost bin? I'm putting all veggie leftovers and cardboard in. Also have leftover turf from where my shed got built. Can I put in compost bin?

Great video, I loved every minute of it. Big thanks to 2 gardening deities. I am a novice and am just getting started here in Thailand with my cabbages, radishes, tomatoes, corn, bunching onions, sugar peas, kale and long bean. And man I am fighting the bugs BIG TIME, but I'm learning everyday and getting there: )

Hello. I have a question: can I put card board mulch on a 'bear' soil in December, or do I have to wait until the warm season when the weeds start to pop up (so I have what to 'kill'? I mean. would the roots die, still, or they would be like 'preserved' under the blanket? Thank you a lot!

The missing head of cauliflower that just grew a nub, is likely to be the result of swede midge, the second (to flea beetle) most destructive pest to brassica crops. The bite/burrowing activity of the female laying her eggs inside causes deformation of plant tissue

Zach Bush talks a lot about NO TILL in organic Non-GMO farming. His non profit Farmer's Footprint is amazing, converting traditional, enslaved by the banks, GMO farmers into self sufficient organ farmers, who don't need loans, all within one calendar year.

Watching this a bit more that 2 years after upload, I find this gentleman's eye for structure and organisation impressive. He's wrangling mother nature in a way that will change the way I look and my small vegetable garden.

Great interview! A man to be respected, and his respect for you, Kevin, is obvious. Your questions encouraged him to really engage: we got a tremendous download of good information, not just a show and tell. Good job.

Enjoyed it. A good overview of Charles Dowdings system of no dig. I have been watching him for awhile. He makes so much sense. I like his calm, no nonsense way of discussing growing. Its very informative and enjoyable.

Kevin, this video was brilliant! LOVE Charles Dowding, and his gardens, and I have a small garden in the woods that will benefit greatly by using this technique, and I am so encouraged to try it. Thank you: )
