Opening And Tasting a RAW Cacao Pod!

Cacao is a wonder fruit, as you can use it to make cacao nibs, chocolate, cacao butter, etc. I got one in the mail from Miami Fruit and decided to open the raw cacao seed pod up and taste the cacao fruit and cacao bean to see what truly RAW chocolate (even though this technically is a chocolate precursor) tastes like

I found this quite fascinating and I loved that you showed what it looks like, explained it's smell, and tasted it. I would never guess that it's a got a tropical scent/taste (not sure why since it looks like a papaya crossed with a bitter melon on the outside and the inside does have similarities to other tropical fruits. It must take so many of those seeds to make chocolate - holy cow!

Okay, this was very interesting, I never expected the inside of it to look like it did, and the slimy part of the seed pod I am glad that you were brave enough to try it, cause I was very hesitant after seeing what it looked like. Thanks for sharing.

the wonder one might experience watching this video, going to press the thumbs up icon and noticing there is one thumbs down, all alone. miserable and wanting company
[edit] it has company now; two peas in a pod of discontent

This was very interesting. When you first took a smell, I was sniffing too. LOL. Really didn't look like I expected on the inside. I'll take your word that the slime was tasty. Thanks for sharing!

Seen a couple of these vids, doing research for a fictional tale and can't get down there myself with travel restrictions. Yours is very thorough and well described. Will look for more from you!

When you opened the pod and I saw what was in it, all I could think of was pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers starring Donald Sutherland. Your experience seemed much more pleasant.

Couldn't believe the size of that. And fascinating. It looked like you cracked open a lobster. Where in the world did U get that? thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see more.

Wow I was expecting you to say that smells nasty and taste nasty and you should cook it because No lie that looks like one of those alien versus predator eggs or something
reply

I use cacao powder. Omg when you opened it, NOT what i was expecting it reminded me of something alien or a bug egg, clearly I've been in my garden too much this week

Back in Asia, when i used to be little my grandma harvests them, we eat the seed, wash the seeds and then sun dry them, then we convert them by grinding to cocoa

Kevin, u r a cleaning freak. u r the only one who is gardening while keeping fingers as clean as can be. I never had cacao before, thanks for sharing!

Has anyone ever told you that you look like the Property Brothers? Maybe with a very slight Asian twist (are you part Asian by any chance. :)

That's interesting - where did you get that? I regularly eat raw cacao beans, but I wonder if they have been fermented? How do you ferment them?

I think that pod would look good in amongst a fall display. Thank you for all your videos this year, and I hope 2020 is a great one for you!
