I really enjoyed this video and took two pages of notes! I received a bulb as a Christmas present. I was annoyed because it arrived on my doorstep around 10: 00 PM and wanted to go to bed but directions said to plant immediately. Ugh. I thought the pot provided was ridiculously small so rustled up a larger one. Now I see your video and you said they like a snug fit. Ugh again. I ended up staking it when it took off. Plants and I don't like each other so I just figured I was going to kill it and not get any blooms. Boy was I wrong. It was so exciting to come down in the morning and see how much it had grown! I got two flowers out of it (gorgeous white with pink streaks) and then later, another stalk came up and it bloomed again! Yay! I didn't kill it. It was in front of a very sunny sliding glass door. The only thing that was disappointing was that the blooms didn't last long. However, I see you said in your video that after blooming, it should have been moved to a cooler location. You are a font of information! I watched another video where the person had taken her bulbs out of the soil and laid them in a large pan in her basement to hibernate. I think I will do it your way. I laughed when you said you had a problem but you have an amazing collection so worth it! Thanks for the great video.

I got my first amaryllis bulb last year and didn-t really do any research on how to care for it and the timing of when to -wake it up-it grew green leaves when I started watering it in the summertime. Once I realized I had my timing off, (late fall/early winter) I stopped watering it, put it in a cool dark place, and now all the leaves have fallen off. It-s now the end of January and I-m wondering what-s best for it-should I let it stay dormant until next fall, or should I -wake it up- in a few weeks (which will have been about 2-3 months or dormancy) and have it bloom this spring? (I live in south eastern Japan for reference)

Hi, I have a question for you. I bought an Amaryllis kit back in November from my local grocery store. I don-t remember the name of it and didn-t know to look for where it came from. It bloomed between Thanksgiving and Christmas and it-s blooming again now. The fist time it bloomed it got maybe 14- or so but now it-s at a whopping 24- high. I can-t get a small enough picture to add here, is there another way I can send you a picture? The bloom is white with light pink on four of the petals, no color on the bottom one and a green center. It-s six inches across. Thanks

i was recently gifted a super long, flopped over amaryllis bulb with only its leaves from a friend who was moving out of state. I don't even know what color or type it is but I am so excited to be surprised after helping it through its dormancy to see what kind it is: ) my friend loves plants but isn't exactly one to do research on the plants she has. I'm excited for a new little project with the amaryllis she gave me even if it looks really silly at the moment haha

Great video, lots of super information! I didn't know about the N vs S hemisphere bulbs. I also have an Amaryllis problem! This Christmas my mother and I went crazy and now we have 16 between us! I give them to friends every year for Christmas. They all send me pictures when they bloom, one sent me a picture with a tape measure to show me it had grown to 14-! Best presents ever, they bring so much happiness!

I don-t know how to add a picture of Hippeastrum RED. It had 2 flower stalks with 5 blooms on each stalk. I was a bit disappointed, I thought the blooms weren-t as big as other amaryllis. I just cut of the 2nd stalk and was thrilled to see another stalk is growing up. I haven-t seen that before, so late.
I sure enjoy your videos. How about one on weed control. Thanks

My 1st grade teacher gifted me a single Apple Blossom amaryllis bulb. I am now 24 and I have well over 12 main plants and a ton of offshoots. I keep them planted outside since I live in the south with warmer climates. They bloom every year right around my birthday which is in April - they are such a beautiful species of flowers!

If I have my amaryllis outside all summer and early fall, but late fall is too cold. Do I bring indoors and put in my dark basement and let the leaves die and dry out? I need to store indoors for 6 months dormant, should I gently mist with water once a month so they don-t dry out completely, or is it ok to store dry that long?

I think I planted some amaryllis. Wrong. I totally submerged the whole bulb and covered it with soil. I'm thinking I shouldn't have done that. This is what a video has told me to do and nothing seems to be growing maybe I should dig them out and leave the nose somewhat visible to the Sun? Please help me on this.

I had planned an Amyrillis last year at the end of February and it's been a year since then but my Amyrillis has not flowered even once. I can't understand what's wrong with the plant. Can you please suggest some tips so that I can follow them to get flowers on my Amyrillis?

I live in zone 8 so I do not need to protect them in the winter. I am moving my beds around and I want to move the amaryllis right now. The plants I want to put in the existing amaryllis bed have already arrived. Will I hurt my amaryllis bulbs if I transplant now? (June)

You are amAzing and sO thorough! Thank You so much for posting this video! I've actually purchased 3 amaryllis. 2 from Breck's and 1 from Trader Joe's market. The difference in price was dramatic! I love the one you have with a white frilly edge. Thank You! Blessings!

Hi, it is now 7 years that my Amaryllis has not bloomed. I get great leaves every year and also got another another bulb 2 years ago, which also has not bloomed. So my question is, if i cut all the leaves now will it help force it to bloom?

Thanks for the info! It was so helpful but when you say America, do you mean North America (U. S? You also mentioned Peru, which is also in America, South America. Maybe is better to break down the continent as South, Central and North America.

Hi I am a first time amaryllis grower. I had a bulb given to me that was already planted and I'm not sure how she did with the dormancy time. But it is starting to shoot out two leaves. Will this still bloom or is it only going to be leaves?
