castiron Back to working on the log cabin suana, I finish the walls and place the top logs with porch extension to carry the roof and porch overhang. The weather is finally perfect for working on the Finnish sauna /Russian banya style bathhouse so I should be able to make headway this week, framing in the roof with full length logs. In the morning on the first day, I prepare duck confit, placing salted duck pieces in a cast iron pot and covering it completely with duck fat. It simmers on the wood stove with a medium fire for over ten hours until it's fall of the bone tender. I eat the duck back for lunch, fried in the cast iron pan, and then for dinner, I remove the two legs from the confit pot and fry them in the cast iron skillet with zucchini, onions, mushrooms and garlic and eat it with fermented sauerkraut. The following morning, I wake up to a lot of fresh snow, about 12 inches, thirty centimetres, over two days. I cook bacon and eggs for breakfast and then clean up and shovel the front deck before company arrives, which they do just before the video ends

My question is this. Why don't you cut about 100 logs to the same exact length. Then make yourself this wooden template to put on each end to measure the notches you have to cut and chisel out? So after you notch out both ends of all 100 evenly cut logs, THEN carry each one over and start stacking them on top of each other to build your cabin? I say 100 because I'm assuming it's about 20 logs each side (20x4 =80 with extra incase)

Shawn, I'm up to video 13 now and I still can't work out how you do the protractor thing and work out how/where to cut the logs. It's unlikely that I'll ever need this skill but it's bugging me that I don't understand. Could you do a really slow, obvious walk-through sometime? Many thanks from Shoreham-By-Sea in the UK. Loving all your videos, poor Joe Robinet must be missing me!

. you are the richest of men Shaun. you have your health, and doing EXACTLY AS YOU WANT, without the need to work at something you don't like doing to fund it. Independence of the richest kind in my view. More power to you! And providing many, with a rich source of inspiration. :)

That has got to be one happy dog. Also. get out of my head! I was just sitting there thinking You should get that dog some boots. Next episode. boots. Seems happy w/o them though! You can always tell a person by how they treat a dog.

Fantastic videos you do, but please could you tell us how you set the cameras as sometimes it seems that someone else is taking them, it is brilliant how you do it. Thanks from Australia

I think you have the most majestic dog in existence. Her leaps and bounds are like poetry in motion. Her awkward attempts to retrieve each and every snowflake is truly sensational!

Hey Shawn. Do you plan on caulking the joints the same way you did the cabin on the sauna?
Duck confi looked yummo
