I like over engineering, as it ensures longevity. I have found many people approaching me for a price on a project, just to tell me I am expensive. Often, a few moons later I am approached to fix the under engineered, cheap alternative taken, which cost to the customer then is substantially more than I quoted. If you under engineer Shawn, it will come bite you in the softer parts of the anatomy, which will prove very uncomfortable. Be your own man, do what you deem to be the best and fix where you did not make the best decision. I have immense respect for you and the way you approach and do things, never being ashamed to own up to the less perfect decisions, but most importantly fixing those. My lesson in life, which I have learned through the University of Hard Knocks, is not how many times a man has fallen, but how many times he has gotten back on his feet. May G-d bless you and your loved ones.

Looking good!
When you were starting that I believed you were making a stairway to underneath your cabin!
I guess not!
Did I miss how your going to gain access to basement?
Moose are so much bigger in the wild seeing them! Kinda looked like that young bull wanted to charge your drone!
They are as unpredictable as bears!
That older bull was massive! 12-13 hundred pounds!
I d prefer the younger one!
I guess I never squared the taste of bear or duck-goose!
Deer or elk my favorite!
Your getting in good shape Shawn!
I ll bet your asking yourself why you doing this build! Saying it seems like it was easier just a few years ago!
Lol
Enjoy your build! Looking great! Your really a better builder this time around!

If you measure your outside walls of your basement--- You will find that they are the same length as it would have been if you just would have built your entire basement, in the full rectangle. So both ways take the same amount of work, except the way you have it now, it's much less sq footage. Granted it is less digging-- and easier to heat the basement later. I just thought I would point out that you didn't save any lumber arranging your walls the way you did. So I guess my point is, I probably would have just built the entire basement in full; especially in that easy digging you've been blessed with. That sand is a godsend.

Never heard Cali that boisterous until now. 'Thought maybe a big, fat bear about to hibernate. By the way, I had somewhat hoped the longhouse buddies should show up a couple times and you'd make an exception to I build alone. This breezeway will be wonderful. It will be a great place to keep kitchen supplies, barrels of water, unless the outdoor kitchen will have a hand pump. Like the old plantations of America's Deep South, protection from the elements. Impressive is the way you treated all that milled lumber and pre-fabricated those walls. Hours of work.

That moose could smell you. He never stopped sniffing the air and staring your way. They may have even seen you, but he could smell you for sure. It must be nice to know that if times get bad enough, you have a grocery story right outside the door and you could take a moose if you really needed food. nice

That is really coming alone. The fall colors and moose were great. I was fearing you going out there without your gun. You know what your doing so I get a sense of relief. Take care Shawn and thank you so much for your work and all you share.

Cali really surprised me when she barked, and alerted Shawn that something was up. Had to grin when Shawn later on said, about her fetching toy, Did I already throw it, or did you already bring it back? It's good to have companionship.

Gee. alone in the woods with my dog and wild animals. My dog barks at something big. You go out to check, so would I BUT only after grabbing my shotgun.
I don't run as fast as I used to, plus the dog can run faster than I can: -)

Shawn, I can't wait until the finish product. I'm totally excited for you and your family! A new cabin in the woods, and I bet it's going to be breath taking because its made by your own hands! Just keep going my friend. peace
