Building a Log Cabin in the Wilderness, Ep1 - 1st Course of Logs

After many months of building a basement foundation and harvesting trees for my new off grid log cabin in the Canadian wilderness, I finally start building the walls. Using logs as large as 18 inches in diameter and 24 feet long, the work is hard and slow and hauling the last of the logs back to the cabin site before snow comes next month will be a challenge

Most of us are thrilled to see how you build your life in nature, in your own piece of forest! building the new house will be the most extreme thing one man can do alone. Most of the spectators cannot even begin to imagine the effort and effort actually involved in moving and processing tree trunks of this size on their own. you don't even want to imagine what happens when something goes wrong. I wish you only the best and have the greatest respect for your performance, the will and the determination with which you pursue your plans and put them into action! greets from Germany. and sorry for my bad english, i hope you can understand what i want to say. I mean if you should read this comment at all

Can't wait to see your new cabin. I live in a big city and nature is not arround the corner. so i'm thankful for people like you that put so much effort in posting their adventures and i can enjoy it. Keep up the good work Shawn and all the best!

Shawn knows how to build a fire. I love how he just takes out the bic lighter and just lights it. Nothing against the folks who make a thing out of it, with the strikers and sparks and embers and such. Thats cool too. At the end of the day, the mans gotta eat, no time for the little fire show.

It s feels so sacred being able to watch you build your Monticello. Watching the first log drop in place was thrilling and surprisingly emotional for me, which is a testament to how captivating your work is. Thank you for sharing with us. Stay safe

Little tip to take the feathers off your partridge, put it on the ground and spread the wings out and step on them where they connect to the body, than grab the legs and pull and 9 of 10 times the meat will slide right out of all the feathers

I can't get over how you do such heavy work by yourself, mostly anyway, Cali helps too, LOL. Still having trouble visualizing what goes where but it's awesome to see it all come together. Can't wait for more vids.

Watching you move heavy logs with the 'donkey' set up reminds me of the many loggers I met in my childhood over six decades ago who sported missing fingers. Please consider some help and take care.

Very exciting period. Hopefully, you achieve some progress until the first snow. If not. It's not the end of the world. The progress until now was amazing. Congratulations Shawn.

Building another cabin. Shawn isn't gonna stop until he's built a town haha. I'll check back in a year and I bet he's laying asphalt roads and finishing off a Saloon next to City Hall.
